Starter: Take the time to read and take notes on the text.

Activate: In 1919, the Weimar Government was forced to sign the Treaty of Versailles.

Produce a mind map on A4 or A3 paper showing how the following terms of the Treaty effected different people. The terms are; Land, Army, Money, Blame.

Starter: You have probably already established why the Weimar republic was unpopular in 1918/1919 but they were in a very difficult position having to sign the Treaty of Versailles.

Activate: They also drew up a new constitution (set of rules) for Germany. Learn about this by watching the video lecture. Take notes on the constitution here with particular focus on its strengths and weaknesses.

Demonstration: Answer the question: Describe the main features of the Weimar Constitution.

Starter: Write down a list of 5 facts you already know about Adolf Hitler. At the end of this lesson, try to increase your list to 10.

Starter: Make sure you have an understanding of why the Putsch happened in 1923 and what the Nazi's hoped to achieve.

Background: The Nazi Party faded from politics in the mid 1920's after the Munich Putsch and they performed badly in elections. It was events of 1929 in America that changed things.

Demonstrate: Explore the consequences for German people of the depression in more detail. Start by downloading the depression roleplay cards detailing the experiences of German people in a small town. Read each flashcard and create a bullet point list of all the main impacts of the depression on German people.

Finally, consider why Nazi Propaganda was so effective and why it was so significant in allowing them to gain support.
