Thanks for joining! We've been working in relocation in Berlin for over a decade and put our heads together to figure out how we could make information more accessible for freelancers and entrepreneurs. Find out who we are, why we are doing this and what we'll be covering over the next couple of hours.
You probably know that health insurance is mandatory, but wrapping your head around the German health insurance system - especially as a freelancer - is really hard. We'll explain the system, tell you what kind of policies you will get access to as a non-EU freelancer, explain the artists' social insurance fund briefly and outline other types of insurance you might need or want as well.
You're in Germany, you're not an EU citizen, you want to start freelancing here but it's impossible to find help, right?
Why doesn't anyone want to help freelancers in this country?
They roll out the red carpet for skilled employees, but we freelancers get the "Arschkarte". Relocation consultants and immigration lawyers don't seem particularly interested in taking on our cases. Information online is well-meaning, but the people who write it have little in common with your case.
We want to change this narrative. Red Tape Translation is already well-known for helping freelancers in Germany. Most of us are creatives ourselves or have been freelancers and expats before. We've spent the last two years creating a step-by-step video guide to help you get your freelance permit.
We got an immigration law firm to check the content before we published. We'll go through every step, every supporting document in great detail. Whether you're in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg or somewhere else, you can use this guide to prepare. Once you've finished the course and you have a complete (and very convincing!) application, we'll tell you exactly where to send it.
Start today, take your time, go through the course at your own pace and give us a shout if you have any questions. We're happy to have you on board and we look forward to seeing you thrive in Berlin.
