Description

Here is a tutorial on the basics of modeling in Maya, the first in a long series that initiate the Fuze project. The goal of this course series is to train you in 3D and Maya.

Objective and Content of this Maya Modeling Basics Tutorial:

Whether you're a complete beginner or already familiar with 3D through other software, this first tutorial is designed to introduce you to Maya and break any misconceptions you might have about it, combining theory with a practical modeling exercise.

We’ll begin by covering the basics of Maya such as navigation, the interface, the software's general philosophy, and more.

Then, you'll get a first look at Maya's modeling tools and workflow. Special attention is given to understanding Maya's history system, terminology, and internal logic, so you can better grasp how each tool functions.

Next, we move into practical application with a simple hard-surface modeling exercise. We start slowly to get comfortable with the tools just introduced. The goal is to thoroughly learn Maya’s modeling workflow, and more importantly, to understand how tools interact with each other to reach the desired result. This is also a great opportunity to get used to working with multiple meshes in the scene, groups, isolations, duplications, etc.

The objective of this training is to model a 3D asset based on a provided 2D concept. Starting with a blocking phase, we’ll explore how to interpret forms and proportions in 3D. Then comes the detailing phase, with proper placement of bevels and thicknesses.
