Course content

1 section10 lectures2h 45m total length
  • Part 1 - Introduction1:43

    An introduction to the course.

  • Part 2 - Fusion Layout21:33

This video goes through the full layout of Fusion in Davinci Resolve 16. It covers the UI and how to import footage and begin your own compositions.

  • Part 3 - Text Animation21:51

As this is our first official class covering effects inside of fusion, we will cover the most basic of effects - text animation. We will create a modern title sequence and then utilise a few different ways to animate it.

After this class you will be familiar with how nodes interact with one another, as well as different animation techniques for creating title sequences inside of fusion.

  • Part 4 - Credit Sequence16:15

In this video we go through more advanced methods of animating text inside of fusion. Specifically we cover how to create a Credit Sequence using an imported Text file.

After this class you will be able to format and create your own credit sequence.

  • Part 5 - 3D Text and Objects34:59

Moving on from our standard 2D Text compositions we move into the world of 3D. Adding an extra dimension to the composition may seem like a daunting prospect, but if you tackle it intelligently it doesn't have to be.

We start this lesson going over the basics of 3D and then onto text animation in 3D space. From there we build upon those lessons to create a 3D scene using shapes and imported media akin to something you might tackle in a real world scenario.

  • Part 6 - Transitions11:30

In this video we import footage into Fusion and add effects to it to create our very first transition. This video covers specifics on how to deal with media inside of fusion.

After completion of this lesson you should feel comfortable importing footage into fusion to create your own transitions.

  • Part 7 - Single Point Tracking19:27

Our first introduction to tracking inside of fusion. We will utilise the single point tracker to track a moving object throughout the scene and then apply that information in a practical manner to a title animation.

We will also look at how to utilise the tracking data in different ways when animating text inside of fusion.

After this class you should have a good understanding of how the single point tracker works inside of fusion and how it applies to title creation and animation.

  • Part 8 - Planar Tracking14:45

There are multiple ways to track footage inside of fusion. After covering single point tracking in the previous class we now move onto planar tracking - best designed for objects as a pattern based tracker. In this class we will use the planar tracker to track a moving object through the frame and then use the information from that tracker to attach a decal to the object.

After this class you should be familiar with how the planar tracker works and be comfortable using it in the next lessons.

  • Part 9 - Green Screen Compositing10:21

This video covers the correct workflow when dealing with green/blue screen footage. We cover how to import the footage into fusion and then key out the dominant colour.

After this class you will be comfortable with chromakeying workflows and working with your own green screen footage.

  • Part 10 - VFX Set Extension13:12

Requirements

  • Have Davinci Resolve 15 or 16 installed on your computer.

Description

This course has been designed from the ground up for beginners to Davinci Resolve, that being said even intermediate users will benefit from this course as the later classes tackle some more advanced VFX compositing techniques. As Fusion is a node based editor learning this software may require some rewiring of how we have learnt previously, the cost of entry is low and after a while it will feel second nature.
