Learn the many different ways to hold your hoops and how to change your grip on the hoop. Some of the grips will feel awkward and uncomfortable at first. Be careful not to rotate your wrists or shoulders to far when you are first starting! Warm up, stretch, and ease into it!! Knowing these many different methods of changing your grip on the hoop, will help you find creative transitions when you start using two hoops.
Wheel Plane and Wall Plane are terms commonly used in flow arts to help flow artists understand where a trick is occurring in the 3-dimensional space around you. These terms are used in discussion about all props, not exclusive to hoops.
It is important that you practice isolations a lot because they are a crucial element of many double hoop tricks. You want to be able to perform them as cleanly as possible to create cool double hoop illusions. In this lecture you will learn tips and tricks to help you be successful at isolating your hoops cleanly and with ease.
Linear isolations are isolations that occur in a straight line from one point on the 9 square grid to another opposite point on the grid. They can be done horizontally, vertically, and diagonally, and all of these types of linear isolations will be elaborated on in this lecture.
Iso-Pops are great fun! These are commonly known in the single hoop world, however, they are usually not elaborated on in the single hoop world. If you start at the center point of the 9 square grid, you can pop your hoop out to any other point and back in. In the many single hoop iso-pop tutorials that I've seen, iso-pops are typically only taught from the center point of the grid to one of the side points of the grid, with little insight about iso-popING to the other points of the grid. Iso-pops can be done vertically, horizontally, and diagonally, and each of those will be elaborated on in this lecture.
I will teach you all sorts of iso-pop patterns using different timings in my VTG/ Wall Plane Patterns Courses, so stay tuned!
Barrel Roll isolations are actually quite easy and fun! It's a great introduction to turning while you hoop. In upcoming courses, I will teach you how to add a second hoop in some creative fun ways. Try incorporating these into your single hoop flow, if you haven't already!
Extensions are one of the main building blocks of double hoop tech! It's also really easy to do extensions while turning! Extensions while turning may also be something you will want to add to your single hoop flow if you haven't already.
Get ready to use extensions a lot in the future as you learn more about technical double hooping.
Antispin flowers are another critical element of double hoop tech. You will use them ALL the time. Drill it continuously with each hand and in both directions to build muscle memory. You will use antispins a lot as you learn how to create patterns with two hoops. This lecture will contain all the resources you will need to strengthen your ability to perform antispins cleanly and with ease.
Inspins are another fundamental of double hoop tech that you should add to your arsenal. It's my belief that inspins are less commonly used in double hoop tech, in comparison to other props like poi. It may be because it is slightly more difficult to execute on hoops than poi, or maybe it's because there are less tutorials on inspin related tricks. Regardless of the reason, here is an introduction into how to do inspins with your hoop!
A one petal inspin, but behind the head! This is a fun one that can be used in double hoop tech patterns.
C.A.P.S stands for Continuous Assembly Pattern. This lecture covers the most commonly known Wall-Plane CAP. CAPS can also be done in wheel plane, and I will teach you that in my future Wheel Plane Course.
Learn how to do a forwards and reverse weave with one hoop in front of you! You can do a forwards (thumb-led weave), as well as a reverse (pinky-led weave). Your hoop will move from one side of your body to the other (hip to hip) in an "x" shape.
Once you learn this, you will easily be able to learn how to do shoulder/hip reels, as well as learn how to do a 2 beat weave, and 3 beat weave. Stay tuned to learn these in a future course!
Reels are just weaves that occur from front of the shoulder to back of the shoulder, or from front of the hip to back of the hip. If you know how to do a weave, you will be able to do a reel!
Welcome!
I have been working hard to create a comprehensive double hoop course that will provide you with all of the fundamental skills that you will need to create magic with your hoops. One of my goals in creating this course was to teach proper technique so that you will be equipped to learn and create anything you want to with double hoops.
It is important to review this Fundamentals of Double Hoop Tech Course before diving into my Wall Plane/ VTG Courses. This course will teach you pre-requisites and vocabulary necessary for putting together Wall Plane Patterns with 2 hoops. You will also learn some drills and tricks that will help you execute the fundamentals cleanly and with ease. This course will cover how to pick out double hoops, grip changes, different types of isolations, extensions, antispins, inspins, weaves, reels, and much much more!
Some people may think it's okay to "skip over" this course if they have already played with two hoops, but I do recommend that you access this course and reference it in conjunction with my other courses. This course will dive into all of these concepts on a deeper level than you may be aware of, and it may help you better understand what you have already learned and clear up any confusion you may have.
