|| ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR ||
Heather Test is an active freelance horn player and educator in the North Texas area. She performed in The Dallas Opera Orchestra as acting 3rd horn for the 2012-2013 season and is a regular substitute player in the Plano Symphony and 2nd horn in the Allen Philharmonic.
In addition to performing with these ensembles and more, she is the Lecturer in Horn at Texas Christian University and maintains a small studio of private students from across the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Her TCU Horn Ensemble has performed on the TMEA Exhibition Showcase stage twice, and they have also helped host the annual TCU HornFest where over a hundred horn players and enthusiasts gather for a day of master classes, recitals, exhibits, and a mass horn choir experience. Past HornFest guests include Thomas Bacon and The American Horn Quartet.
Prior to joining the TCU music faculty in August of 2011, Heather taught horn at the University of Texas at Arlington for three and a half years. Ms. Test has a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of North Texas (2001), where she studied with Dr. William Scharnberg and a Master of Music in Performance from Southern Methodist University (2003), where she studied with Gregory J. Hustis. Additionally, since 2003 Ms. Test has been an employee of TrumCor Mutes and became their General Manager in 2005. TrumCor is a Dallas-based company that hand crafts premium mutes for brass instruments.
Heather Test has performed in the Dallas Symphony as a substitute musician under the direction of the late Marvin Hamlisch, as a substitute with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, CO (summer 2002), the Henry Mancini Institute in Los Angeles, CA (summer 2003), the Quartz Mountain Music Festival in Altus, OK, with Robert Gomez at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX, and most recently on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno with The Polyphonic Spree (2012), which is Dallas own choral/symphonic/pop/rock band. Heather has recorded with The Polyphonic Spree, Bill Callahan, Sarah Jaffe, Robert Gomez, The Lone Star Wind Orchestra, The UNT Wind Symphony, the UNT Two Oclock Lab Band, Anaphase, Clint Niosi, and has performed on various film scores by local composers. Heather is married to fellow musician and drummer/percussionist, Kelly Test, and they reside in East Dallas with their son, Benjamin and dogs, Emma Leigh and Russell.
