Learn how MATLAB enables designing, running, analyzing, importing, and visualizing neuroscience and psychology data from eye tracking to EEG and fMRI for publications and coursework.
Explore MATLAB's workspace and key terms as you learn to use the command window, current folder, and working directory, assign and retrieve variables, and index vectors and matrices.
Explore Matlab built-in functions for maths, statistics, and matrix creation, including mean, zeros, and linspace; learn to use logical operators, help files, and scripts for repeatable workflows.
Plot data in Matlab, including memory and resilience scores, using hold on and legend, and load and display images with Psycho Toolbox to present visual stimuli in neuroscience experiments.
Have you ever done programming before for your neuroscience or psychology degree or your job in healthcare?
Have you attended coding classes and felt like you couldn’t keep up with the pace?
Long hours in front of the black screen, error messages and troubleshooting right before the deadlines.
Sounds familiar?
We're Adrianna and Ana, two graduate neuroscience students who met by chance in the library while working on the coding assignment as a part of our MSc course.
We decided to study together to learn programming in MATLAB with zero experience!
After finally passing our coding assignments, completing a research internship in a decision-making lab and submitting independent research projects, we decided to collect our experience, skills and knowledge to share with students just like us.
We know how challenging it is to get started so we created this "Introduction to MATLAB Crash Course" tailored for neuroscience and psychology students who are complete beginners or just getting started.
Who this course is for:
Undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate Neuroscience and Psychology students
Healthcare professionals interested in learning how to code in MATLAB
Lab technicians or research assistants who need to run experiments or analyse data
For anyone who wants to learn programming in MATLAB!
What is covered:
What is MATLAB and why do you need it?
How coding skills can benefit your career perspectives
MATLAB workplace set up, how to use basic functions, logical operators
How to write your own scripts in MATLAB
Importing, saving, analysing, visualising and exporting data
