Description

This hands-on course explores the essential principles of foundation geotechnics with a strong focus on practical application and Python-based analysis. Students will examine shallow and deep foundation systems—strip footings, raft foundations, driven piles, bored piles, and caissons—through real-world case studies from infrastructure, energy, and construction projects. Each foundation type is analyzed in terms of soil-structure interaction, bearing capacity, settlement behavior, slope stability, and load transfer mechanisms, with consideration of geotechnical site conditions including clay, sand, silt, and rock.

Using Python, learners will build tools to perform foundation design calculations, visualize stress distribution, assess safety factors, and simulate field testing data such as Standard Penetration Test (SPT), Cone Penetration Test (CPT), and pile load tests. The course integrates Eurocode 7 and other global standards to evaluate both serviceability and ultimate limit states.

By the end of the course, students will be able to apply analytical, empirical, and numerical methods using Python to solve complex foundation problems. Ideal for civil engineering students, geotechnical professionals, and researchers, the course bridges theoretical knowledge with modern computational skills for foundation design and assessment in diverse ground conditions.
