In this short introduction, I’ll present what you’ll learn in the course, my background in footwear design, and how we’ll go from creative concept to professional production workflow.
In this lesson, I’ll walk you through the complete Teaching Plan for this course.
You’ll see each stage of the footwear design process — from the first sketch to the final tech pack — and understand how we’ll apply it step by step.
I’ll also show you the Club House 80 moodboard, our creative direction, and the benchmark model we’ll use as a case study throughout the course.
Access a complete student support package of editable footwear design assets, geometry, outsold proportion guide, clean outline versions, textures, and brand placements for sketch to tech pack workflow.
Define the geometric base for shoe proportions using x as a reference, establishing a 15 cm total length with 6 cm side height and a heel curve x/5.
Use a simple proportion system with x equals two centimeters to form a 16 cm outsole, mark the axis, and define heel, flexion point, and forefoot with circles.

Create the cap, vamp, tongue, and lace of a shoe using the pen tool and eyedropper, then refine colors and use path offset and pathfinder to build the two-colored outsole.
Continue to build the footwear model by creating lace holes and vamp perforations, then apply the model's visual identity with clipping masks, lights and shadows, embroidery, and gray color layers.
Learn to apply drop shadows and lighting to footwear sketches using path effects, gaussian blur, and layered appearances to add volume and depth, with emphasis on texture and color layers.
Create realistic footwear shadows by duplicating textures and using a clipping mask. Apply Gaussian blur and adjust stroke weight to add depth and light on the outsole.
Explore digitalizing footwear details by building shadows and light on the upper using vector techniques, gaussian blur, and clipping masks to add depth with pathfinder-based layer unification.
Adjust the outsole colorway to off white and gum natural, trace the outsole contour with the pen tool, create pattern islands with offset, and apply clipping masks for logos.
Refine the model and finalize the tech pack with detailed callouts, descriptions, textures, and color options, including outsole, leather, laces, embroidery, and insole print.
Export digital footwear designs as PNG at 300 ppi with a white background, then collaborate with the CMF design committee to select pilot and final production colors.
