Description
We’ve all been there: Your chicken or vegetables go bad in the fridge. Or maybe you’ve cooked a bigger portion than you intended, and you know it won’t taste good again the next day.
There is a quick solution. Just throw it away.
Now imagine that happening with billions of people around the world. And just like that, through a mindless everyday task, you have all contributed to one of the biggest problems in the world: food waste.
But how big of a problem is it? Is it as simple as people throwing food in the garbage?
Learn more about the problem of food waste in this course and understand the importance of reducing it for future sustainable development. This is the first module of the food waste & sustainability course offered by TotalCtrl. The course will be taught by Charlotte Aschim, who is the CEO and founder of TotalCtrl, a company specialising in food waste and food traceability.
This module will answer the following questions and talk about them:
What is food waste?
Different types of food waste? (For example, avoidable and unavoidable)
Why food waste is a problem? (Global warming, climate change, use of resources)
What are the causes of food waste?
Facts on Food waste.
How is food waste related to sustainability? (SDGs, how food waste is related to the SDGs)
Who this course is for:
- Anyone who is interested to learn about the issues related to food waste. Can also help professionals within the food industry in implementing the things taught during the course.
Instructors
An expert in sustainable development and food waste. Have a master's in supply chain management with a master thesis that focused on how agricultural food waste can be reduced along the supply chain. Currently working at TotalCtrl, which is a Norwegian tech company developing software to reduce food waste within the hospitality industry.

Background/education: Charlotte holds a master's degree within land management (chief engineer). She started her first job at the age of 12 (while studying and playing soccer) and has primarily worked within the construction industry and food industry. She is a self-taught coder (learned coding via YouTube) and is acknowledged as an expert within her field by both researchers, the business sector and royalty.
