We have soul needs—emotional and spiritual needs that are important to our self-image and its
survival. When our soul needs are unmet, they become soul yearnings:
• Safety. To be safe and comforted.
• Purpose. To have a personal purpose.
• Belonging. To know that you belong.
• Significance. To be significant and have honor.
• Love. To be loved and known as lovable.
When these soul needs are not fulfilled, they cause emotional conflict. They leave strongholds of doubt,
fear, and longings that lurk in our hearts. We find ourselves believing lies about ourselves and trying
various ways of escaping the emotional pain they create. For this, we need emotional resilience—the
ability to bounce back from emotional pain.

The next sign of a Healthy Christian is being led by the Holy Spirit. When it comes to equipping us for ministry, we have the most essential ingredient for a successful life imaginable. When we became born-again, we received the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit into our very being. Imagine. God in His infinite wisdom created a way for each of us to be led personally by Him!
This guidance is given through the Holy Spirit. Jesus attested to this fact: “It is good for you that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you”
(John 16: 7).
