You'll meet your coach Tony and he'll tell you what you're going to learn in this course:
He'll also explain that this course isn't just for people taking the Cambridge First exam but also for:
In this lecture we'll be talking about all the structures you can use instead of 'like', which will immediately improve your speaking. You'll be surprised how easy it is to improve how you sound to the people listening to you.
Tony will take you through all the different structures. Also, there's a downloadable PDF that comes with this lecture so you can review all the different structures.
Later in the course Tony will be practising the pronunciation of these structures. Remember pronunciation is really important, it makes you sound so much better in any situation.
Students often don't realise what the examiners are looking for. Tony, who is a Cambridge speaking examiner, will tell you what they really are looking for and you'll be very surprised!
If you think it's all about grammar and vocabulary, you're wrong. Grammar and vocabulary is only 25% of the mark so where does the other 75% come from?
Here you'll see and hear all the structures you can use instead of 'like' and do drilling practise to perfect your pronunciation, intonation and stress because as Tony told you it's 25% of the mark. You'll sound more authentic and give better answers after doing this practice.
Tony will tell you the types of questions and topic areas you'll be asked about in part 1 of the exam. He'll also tell you how to answer the questions and how not to answer the questions,
In part 1 of the speaking exam you are speaking about yourself and sometimes it's difficult to find the right word. We've made that a lot easier with our brilliant topic vocabulary suggestions.
In this lecture you'll see actual students answering real part 1 questions. How well do they answer the questions?
At the end Tony will give some feedback telling you what they did well and what they could have improved.
Here's your chance to practise everything you've learned so far about Speaking Part 1.
You'll see a real examiner asking questions.
Then the clock starts ticking.
You have to answer the question.
Don't give a short answer!
Remember:
answer the question
add more information
add some personal information
You could record yourself doing it and review your performance.
Have a look at these 99 part 1 style questions. Can you answer them all or are there some areas where you vocabulary is weak. Identify your weaknesses and practise those topic areas more. Remember this isn't just for the exam this is for real life
On the second sheet you can start to write down answers and/or vocabulary you can use to talk about yourself.
You will be fully prepared to give amazing answers in your speaking exam part 1.
The questions in Part 1 could come from any of the topic areas. To get used to answering random questions we've created this game. To play the game download the PDF and make sure you have a dice. Throw the dice once to select the topic and then again to select the question in that topìc area. Try to speak for about 30 seconds for each one. Record yourself and later listen back to see how you could improve your answer.
Remember the way to answer:
In this lecture Tony will tell you the format of the part 2 task. He'll tell you the type of language you should be using to get a great mark and he'll tell you what not to do!
Don't skip this if you want to get a fantastic mark in part 2. Modals aren't easy but Tony will give you a user friendly review of the modals of speculation and their use:
He'll also look at the different forms:
With this lecture you'll find a pdf with all the different structures, their use and example.
Remember pronunciation, intonation and stress are 25% of the mark. Make sure you practise your pronunciation of modal structures so you sound fantastic.
Here you'll see basic, better, advanced and amazing comparing structures. You have to use them in part 2 of the exam so don't use the basic structures, use the advanced and amazing structures.....your examiner will be amazed!
Remember pronunciation, intonation and stress are 25% of the mark. Make sure you practise your pronunciation of the comparative structures so you sound fantastic.

Linkers are really easy to learn and you don't need too many of them. Your answers are going to sound so much better if you use them. As the title says they pull everything together!
(pull together is a phrasal verb meaning - to work well together or cooperate)
Watch these two candidates answering part 2.
How did they do?
What did they do well?
What could they improve?
How would you answer the question?
With these 'karaoke' videos you can do a timed simulation of part 2 of the Cambridge First speaking exam.
Part 2 of the First speaking exam is probably the most challenging part of the exam so we have made a short video to review all the different parts.
Remember this is the part of the exam that most students DON'T achieve the maximum mark. The only way you'll improve your mark is by following Tony's advice and practise as often as you can. Make sure you practise:
Modals of speculation
Comparatives structures
Linkers
Good luck and remember practice makes perfect!
