Requirements

  • Just your Bible and an open heart to see what Spirit wants to say to you in this challenging topic!

Description

If you've been involved in a multicultural mission community, no doubt you've had questions and felt tensions around the use of money.

To help you wrestle deeply with this tricky topic, in this course you will:

  1. Inductively study what the Bible says about finances and possessions in community--especially where financial koinonia is mentioned

  2. Learn some of the broad, worldview-level differences between different cultures related to money

  3. Engage with some practical activities that help you apply everything you have learned to your specific context

We know you are already on a journey of understanding and seeking to apply biblical principles around finances in Christian community in your context.  And you are probably already intuitively aware of some of the ways that cultural differences can complicate your desires to love others in a Christ-like manner in the areas of money and possessions.

We created this course to act as a guide by your side on this learning journey to help you clearly articulate the biblical and cultural values around finances that will help you love others well in this challenging topic.

You will do this by listening in to the "stories" of three members of a multicultural community as they wrestled with finances in their pre-field seasons as missionaries, then were sent through Mobilisation Gateways, and finally how they sought financial koinonia on the field.

We pray that by completing this course you:

  1. Identify broad biblical principles for how Christians relate to finances/possessions by:

    1. Seeing the majority of what the New Testament says about finances/possessions

    2. Studying key passages related to financial koinonia

    3. Creating a personal definition of financial koinonia

  2. Feeling and articulating some of the major worldview differences relating to finances and possessions

  3. Hearing real examples of how financial koinonia is being sought within teams, gateways, and structures

  4. Engaging with at least one practical activity that focuses on applying all of the above in your specific context

Who this course is for:

  • Any Christ-follower interested in wrestling with the challenge of finances in a multicultural mission community
  • This course is designed for members of Pioneers International, but we imagine it would apply to many other multicultural mission communities as well
