Turn feedback into growth with five principles: everyone can grow; you need feedback; resist hard feedback; learn to receive feedback; and pursue small 1% changes for outsized impact.
Explore how the amygdala triggers fight or flight and how the prefrontal cortex supports reflection and learning in response to feedback. Learn to keep feedback generative and energy-creating for growth.
Make feedback about growth, not measure and assess, to keep the amygdala from hijacking and the prefrontal cortex in charge, translating feedback into growth and learning aligned with growth mindset.
Shift your focus from last time to next time, move the field of play toward the future, and let the prefrontal cortex guide growth, acknowledging feedback's bias.
Stay in the driver's seat when you receive feedback, choosing to shelve, dismiss, or act on it, making the feedback generative and guiding your behavior.
Flip the chair to see feedback as a window into the giver’s values, beliefs, and expectations, then respond with autonomy-friendly coaching and smarter leadership.
Learn to receive feedback graciously and act on it, creating a visible track record of learning and growing that signals your ability to recover from stumbles.
Learn to receive feedback graciously and act on it visibly through micro interactions, using ear over hand and the three steps: get comfortable, get curious, get busy.
Apply the four mantras to receive feedback graciously and act on it: it's not about me, not about last time, I'm not done yet, I never react, I always respond.

We all receive feedback, but we can't control who gives it to us. For that reason, you’re likely better off investing in how to receive feedback than in how to give it.
Why Is Feedback So Difficult?
If you're like most people, feedback can be difficult to receive, and it doesn’t always come from people who are good at giving feedback. Even if you already know that receiving feedback is important to both your personal and professional development, you're probably still left wondering "Why is receiving feedback so difficult and anxiety-ridden, and how can I get better at making use of the feedback I receive?”
