Description

The Fall Protection, Walking and Working Surfaces course is for all personnel who require an awareness of the hazards involved in working at height. This course is aligned with industry best practice and aims to make personnel aware of the potential hazards of working at height and the controls that can be implemented to reduce risk.

This course will benefit participants by increasing their awareness of the potential hazards of working at height and the steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of injury. Participants will be able to work safely at heights in the workplace with minimal supervision by identifying the requirements of the job, accessing and installing the required equipment, and cleaning up the work area. They will also be able to conduct a risk assessment of the job.

While falls may be categorised as falls from an elevation and falls from the same level, the focus of this course is on falls from an elevation. The course starts by discussing the elements of a fall to include, the free-fall distance the worker falls, the shock absorption at impact and the body weight of the worker.

The course also examines the hierarchy of controls for working at heights to include fall elimination, fall prevention and fall control. The various approaches, methods and equipment for achieving the objectives of fall elimination, prevention and control are also enumerated in the course.

The course includes case studies, additional explanatory videos, quizzes, further study materials and a detailed guidance document on the correct use of ladders and scaffolds.
