Almond eyes are named after the almond nut: slightly pointed at the outer and inner corners, with a soft, symmetrical curve through the center.
They are considered the “most balanced” eye shape because they allow almost any eyeshadow or liner style to work beautifully.
Key visual traits:
The iris touches both the top and bottom of the eyelid, but not fully visible in its entirety.
The outer corners slightly lift upward.
The crease is visible but not too deep or hidden.
The overall shape looks elongated rather than round.
Pro tip: Almond eyes often look naturally “cat-like” even without eyeliner.
1. Matte
Texture: Flat, velvety, no shimmer.
Effect: Defines, deepens, and sculpts the eye.
Best for:
Creating structure in the crease and outer corner
Blending seamlessly between shimmer shades
Natural or professional looks
Pro tip: Use matte shadows to subtly lift the almond shape without adding shine that might distort its symmetry.
2. Shimmer
Texture: Fine reflective particles; soft glow without glitter chunks.
Effect: Adds luminosity and draws attention to the lid or inner corner.
Best for:
Center of the lid to make the eyes appear bigger
Inner corner and brow bone for brightness
Romantic or everyday glam looks
Use for almond eyes: Focus shimmer on the middle of the lid to keep the eye open and luminous.
3. Metallic
Texture: Smooth and foil-like; high reflection with intense color payoff.
Effect: Creates bold, eye-catching looks.
Best for:
Center lid for spotlight effect
Night or photoshoot makeup
Statement glam
Artist tip: Metallics can emphasize texture—apply with a finger or damp brush only where the light naturally hits the almond’s curve.
4. Satin
Texture: Between matte and shimmer — a soft sheen without sparkle.
Effect: Gives dimension without being dramatic.
Best for:
Transition shades between matte and shimmer
Day looks needing subtle light reflection
Mature skin or textured lids
For almond eyes: Perfect for soft-glam looks; enhances the shape without overwhelming it.
5. Glitter
Texture: Visible sparkle particles; can be loose or pressed.
Effect: Reflects large light particles for a bold, festive look.
Best for:
Center lid pop for night looks
Creative and editorial makeup
Paired with a tacky base (glitter glue)
Warning: Avoid applying glitter too close to the inner corner—it can overpower the almond balance.
6. Cream / Liquid Eyeshadow
Texture: Smooth, blendable formula in cream or liquid form.
Effect: Can range from matte to metallic; ideal for long wear or base layering.
Best for:
Quick application
High-pigment looks
Layering under powders for intensity
Pro tip: Use a matte cream shadow as a base to intensify powder colors and extend longevity.
7. Duo-Chrome / Multi-Chrome
Texture: Shifts color depending on lighting and angle.
Effect: Adds depth and movement; mesmerizing on almond eyes.
Best for:
Center of the lid or lower lash line
Artistic and editorial work
For almond eyes: The natural curvature makes light shift beautifully—use it to accentuate the symmetry.
