Welcome to the course!
This course is for total beginners to Excel taking you step by step.
The lessons usee Excel version 2020 on a Windows PC. If you have a Mac, some of the commands are different.
A bit about me. I am a qualified accountant and worked in Industry for many years as Financial Controller and as Chief Financial Officer.
In 1989 I first started using Excel and soon fell in love with it. Since then, most days I have used it for several hours a day.
I am a power user, used to creating massive spreadsheets with complex formulae, but I also have a lot of simple spreadsheets.
The course is designed so each lesson builds on the previous one, and you can work your way through sequentially. Or if you prefer, you can just look at the sections that you want to.
That is all for now.
I hope that you enjoy the course!
Wishing you the very best of luck with Excel, and I hope that one day you will love it as much as I do! :-)
Open Excel, create a new blank workbook, and save it as a named file using save as, with auto save and the default book seven name plus undo and redo.
Explore the Excel ribbon—the brains of Excel—and its main tabs—home, insert, page layout, formulas, data tools, and help—and learn to customize the ribbon and add new tabs for beginners.
Master the name box and formula bar to identify the active cell, view and edit cell formulas, and insert functions, with tips to resize the formula bar for long formulas.
Learn to manage Excel workbooks by adding and renaming sheets, color-coding tabs, and using zoom to adjust view, while noting circular references.
Learn to save using save or save as, rename and navigate directories, and choose CSV export or an Excel file to support macros and compatibility.
Navigate a large Excel sheet quickly by using the End key to jump to the bottom, then use down or right arrows to reach data.
Learn how to move rows and columns in Excel, including selecting, dragging with the cross and arrows, and using shift right to move or copy, with undo tips.
Use auto sum to quickly add a range; the total updates when you insert a row. Insert the average function, select the range, and press enter to see the average.
Create a simple data table in Excel with headers and monthly data, apply a table style, adjust column width, and convert back to a range.
Format a table manually in Excel to control appearance, using shading, merged headings across five columns, center across the table, font size 28, thousands separators with no decimals, and borders.
Select the entire table, name the print area for quick reuse, and set rows and columns to repeat so headers print clearly across pages.
Select rows two and three to repeat at the top and column B to print on every page. Use page layout options to adjust scaling, orientation, and grid lines.

When you master Excel you will:-
1) Save a lot of time
2) Produce more accurate and useful spreadsheets
3) Earn the praise of bosses and co-workers who will think you are amazing
One of my first students, Rick, messaged me to say "I thought it was outstanding! It was extremely easy to follow and hit on some critical key points for a beginner."
You should join this course - I am really looking forward to working with you and passing on my Excel knowledge.
The course will gently lead a total beginner through all the steps to create and format a basic spreadsheet.
It will demystify a lot of jargon, and also provide some killer tips that will save a lot of time, and wow your boss.
The course assumes no prior knowledge. Each lesson builds on the previous one. So it is designed for you to start at the beginning and work your way through. However if you prefer, you can jump around and just do the lessons you want.
I have included a downloadable course spreadsheet that I build during the course. As you watch the videos, follow along with what I do on a new blank spreadsheet, and compare with my one. That is the fastest way to learn and master the skills.
I really hope that you master Excel and come to love it as much as I do.
Happy Excelling!!!
