Master evaluation and management coding for CPC certification, including exam structure and decision trees. Explore history, examination elements, and clinical cases across outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings.
Cover 2021 updates to evaluation and management services, including changes to office/outpatient codes (nine nine two zero one two two one five) and prolonged services (nine nine four one seven).
Understand the CPC exam structure: 150 multiple-choice questions across 17 knowledge areas, including CBT coding, X codes, and ICD-10, with passing strategies and breaks.
Learn how evaluation and management coding differs for office, hospital, and consultation visits, and apply a three-year decision tree to determine new or established patients.
Identify how evaluation and management decision making uses case history, examination findings, and medical decision making; assess uniform codes, number of decisions, data collected, and risk management for coding.
Explore history of present illness and past, family, and social history in E&M assessment, detailing eight HPI elements—quality, severity, timing, duration, context, modifying factors, and associated signs and symptoms.
Identify chest pain etiologies by taking history and risk factors, rule out acute MI, and differentiate GERD, esophageal motility disorders, peptic ulcers, gallstones, and other cardiac or vascular causes.
Assess palpitation as presenting feature, evaluate heart rate and irregular rhythm, and use echocardiography, EKG, and Holter monitoring to identify hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; manage with lifestyle changes and beta blockers.
Navigate the review of systems across body areas and relate chief complaints to detailed history, then assess levels of E&M services using history, exam, medical decision making.
Explore how place of service, type of service, and patient status influence E&M coding. Learn the role of modifiers, history levels, and medical decision making in determining the codes.
Explain how the two by three and three by three rules guide E&M coding, selecting the all-matching code or the least or middle code based on component alignment.
Evaluation and Management (E&M) Services for CPC Certification Guidelines + Clinical Scenarios
The E&M services carry a lot of importance in the day-to-day medical coding and also during the patient journeys through the healthcare facility.
This E&M program is designed with details of all the guidelines provided by AAPC and includes more than 20 scenarios which are the exam question samples. These guidelines are simplified, tabulated, and made visually clearer to ease the understanding. I have also included the Recent updates from the 2021 AAPC guidelines. There are modifications in the recent updates and these are elaborated with examples.
This course is designed for learners with a variety of backgrounds to give insight into the details of Evaluation and Management coding. For the CPC AAPC certification, it is essential to have complete clarity on the EnM coding. This is a combination of “Current Guidelines” + “Clinical Scenarios” + “Recent 2021 Updates” on all the codes. There are several sections with all the topics as outlined in the “What will you learn section”. I hope this will give you all the relevant information to make coding easy for you. For any queries or more details please get in touch with me.
Let’s dive in to get to the bottom of all codes and do the coding.
Welcome to this learning session!
