First, thank you for signing up for this course! Your time is valuable, so I've tried to pack as much good stuff in as possible. I suggest downloading Mindfulness in Plain English first so you can read along as you use the other resources.
This isn't meant to be a full introduction to meditation; that would take much more than a mini-course! But I hope that having some guided tracks, a great book, some videos, and suggestions for podcasts, apps, and the like will help get your practice off the ground or support you as you deepen it.
Please write me any time (claire@clairevillarreal.com) with questions, comments, or suggestions. I'll be adding materials to this course, so please ask if there's something you'd like to see!
In this lesson, you'll find a video reminding you to let go of judgment and enjoy your meditation practice. Also, there are a lot of guided meditations you can download; if you want them on your phone, just open this course with the Udemy app and download the files.
Curiosity and kindness are two of the most important qualities to cultivate for a long-lasting, never-boring meditation practice. This video contains some suggestions on how to bring them to each session.
You'll also find a link to Kristin Neff's work on self-compassion, which has guided meditations, exercises, and more resources to enhance the kindness and curiosity you offer to yourself.
Once you're familiar with the three foundational skills of meditation, you can notice when you're using them -- in meditation or in the rest of your life -- and cultivate them intentionally.
