  • Welcome to this Course!3:37

Welcome to this free Udemy course! This course is both a gift to the Microsoft Dynamics 365 community, and also an interactive forum. I will be sure to pay attention to comments, feedback, and will attempt to engage as much as possible with students. I've been working with Microsoft Dynamics in one form or another for fourteen years, and I somehow still enjoy myself every day with it - and I learn something new every day as well!  I'm happy to share this information and I hope you enjoy this course.

  • Introduction to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement5:23

Microsoft Dynamics 365 is an enormous and growing platform of business applications that are related and which reside (mostly) on a common set of data now named the "Dataverse."  Microsoft seems to be attempting to cover every conceivable base when it comes to to the software needs of most businesses.  This is even true for "line of business" apps, since they have released the Power Platform, which provides the ability to create custom applications in Power Apps using most of the customization functions originally developed in Microsoft Dynamics CRM (the grandmother of Dynamics 365 and Model-Driven Power Apps). This module provides a whirlwind tour of three apps - Sales, Service and Field Service.

  • Introduction to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Administration6:46

It's important to understand that there are actually several administrative interfaces for Microsoft Dynamics 365. Some high-level functions, such as licensing and User information must be configured in the Microsoft 365 administration environment, while other critical operations are managed in the Power Platform Admin Center.  Many of the environment-specific administrative actions take place within the Advanced Settings of Microsoft Dynamics 365 itself, and finally, there is the App Designer.  Keeping track of where you manage what is an important set of information, and this module delivers that.

  • Creating the Environment4:31

If you have not signed up for a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Trial, and have instead purchased licenses of Microsoft Dynamics Customer Engagement, you will need to first create an "Environment" and install the apps for which you have a license, before you can even log into the system. You may also wish to perform this step to create a "Development" or "Sandbox" environment. Using the Power Platform Admin Center, Microsoft has made it easier than ever to manage environments.  This module walks through the steps to create this important first step.

  • System Settings5:43

When first setting up Microsoft Dynamics 365 for your users, System Settings is a good place to start. Here you will set up the environment in terms of formatting, choices such as Bing Maps integration, and Outlook Integration settings, plus a lot of other important decisions.  This module walks through the more important settings to understand and work with.

  • Personal Settings6:52

To help your users have a better experience, you should deliver the information in this module to them. For this reason, this video is downloadable, so you can distribute it.  Personal Settings has no effect on the system itself - it's mainly for the personal preferences of the user.  While there is an add-on that allows you, as administrator, to manage these settings on behalf of your users - and in bulk (see the Resources of this lesson), without that add-on, each user must perform these settings themselves.

Requirements

  • A subscription (or trial) of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales and/or Customer Service
  • An interest in Administration of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales or Service

Description

This free course is a gift to the Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (Sales and Service) community, delivered by Owen Scott -  a 14-year veteran of the platform.  The intention of this course is not only to introduce some of the fundamental elements of administration, including the first steps required to get started deploying Microsoft Dynamics 365, but also to provide some slightly more advanced topics, like integration with Microsoft 365, data management, how and why to use Global Option sets, field relationship mapping, and a module to walk the student through a tiny case study for the software development lifecycle of Requirements, Analysis, Design and Deployment of a simple solution within Dynamics 365.

This course is also intended to provide a community forum by one of the foremost leaders of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 community. Owen Scott has delivered Microsoft Dynamics 365 over 100 times for small businesses, and more than 30 times for the Enterprise, providing solutions for Aerospace, Manufacturing, Healthcare, State and Local Governments, Higher Education, K-12, Financial Services, Real Estate, and the Entertainment industries, just to name a few. Interaction with this course will help inform a more comprehensive course offering planned to be released within the next eight months or so.
