This video is the introduction to the course and asks the important question, 'why should you undertake training as a life coach'?
After this video learners will understand some of the principal reasons and benefits for enrolling in this training. Training to become either a life coach, an executive coach, or both.
To better understand what Life Coaching is, we have numerous sources where we can look for a definition. In this video first of all we explore what the differences are between a life coach, a consultant and a mentor. The differences are actually quite profound. Next, we look at some official coaching definitions from the main bodies that oversee the Life Coaching and Executive Coaching industry.
This video is a filmed interaction with a group of life coach students looking at the official definitions of coaching from the International Coaching Federation and The Association for Coaching.
This video is a clip from a live training scenario in which the trainer, Steve Payne, expands upon the need for coach training.
Why is training so important?
Coaching touches the lives of millions each day and people are on the receiving end of coaching techniques in all walks of life. We have, most obviously, dedicated life coaches and executive coaches; those who deliver coaching as a paid service, however we also have millions of people who use coaching techniques, very often unaware, in such roles as leaders, managers, business owners, parents, even friends and colleagues. In fact life coaching is something we will most likely all do at some point in our life.
When you don't give someone advice and instead ask them to find the answer from within themself, that, fundamentally, is coaching. Even just asking the simple question "What do you think?" is coaching in its purest and simplest form.
A fully-trained life coach however can act as a catalyst to create life-changing results for a client. Coaching transforms the lives of individuals and teams alike. Entire communities and workforces can even change for the better thanks to coaching interventions (this is why Executive Coaching is such big business in the corporate world).
And that is why Coach Training, as a whole, is essential. Life coach training empowers individuals to learn how to effectively coach others in order to achieve transformational changes in that other person's life.
Executive coaches can be the catalyst for indirectly putting millions of extra pounds, dollars or euros onto the bottom line of an organisation. Life coaches can help individual overcome limiting beliefs that may have held them back for decades. Sports coaches can empower athletes to be world-class....the list goes on.
This video explains the Academy of Coaching and Training's philosophy on coach training. We touch upon the link between Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Life Coaching.
This video explains why NLP forms the basis of our Life Coaching approach because, with NLP involved in the process, incredible transformational results be achieved with a coaching client.
Before proceeding with your Life Coaching Course, we thought we would share with you this empowering concept called The Learning Dip? For most people, when we learn something new, the integration of the new knowledge can cause a short-term drop in performance before we get the full benefit.
This drop in performance and competence is perfectly natural and this video explains what is going on "behind the scenes".
The Learning Dip is such a powerful model to share with you because it may well apply to you during this course. Equally, when you are coaching clients, an understanding of the learning dip can help a client keep focus, working through any temporary drop in performance to achieve improved results.
I've met numerous people over the years who find it hard to accept that change is possible and are therefore sceptical of life coaching or coaching in any form. You may be familiar with sayings such as "Old habits run deep", "A leopard can't change its spots" and "You cannot change who you are".
As you'll discover in section 6, beliefs are just.........well....beliefs. They aren't facts.
As coaches, we are privileged to witness great positive change in clients, colleagues and friends, on a regular basis. Sports coaches are constantly looking to help their client's achieve the 'impossible'. Not long ago, many people believed running a 4-minute mile was an impossible feat for a human being until Roger Bannister consigned that belief to history.
Neuroscience has proven what happens in the brain when patterns of thinking, neural pathways, change. This process is called Neuroplasticity. Neuroscience therefore provides us with a scientific explanation as to one way a coach can help their clients break barriers and achieve their dreams.
In this video, we look at neuroplasticity, what it means to the life coaching industry and how, by merely explaining it to your clients, it can help them to embrace the concept of change and get the most out of their coaching sessions.
In this video Steve explores some of the communication habits that might not help us in a coaching scenario, including interpretation, assumption and linking what a client says to our own experience.
Human beings learn effectively through doing, not just by absorbing information. The activity of writing down how to bring your learning to life, and then physically doing it, has been proven in study after study to help you learn faster and at a deeper level. Here is the first task for you to complete. Enjoy!
What can make our success more likely to happen? This video takes us through the Principles of Success, also known as the Growth Mindset.
This video explores the Change Model and looks at the principle behind moving from where we are, to where we want to be - after all, Change lies at the very heart of the life coaching process.
Comfort zones do not usually promote growth, they can actually be a barrier to growth. This video looks at how stepping out of our comfort zones can help us discover new possibilities. As a life coach, appreciating that clients have comfort zones in itself is empowering. Breaking out of comfort zones, or stepping out of them, is one of the most effective ways of getting results for your life coaching client.
All change involves moving from where we are to where we want to be; effectively we have a 'present state' and a 'desired state'. The coach's job is to help the client successfully navigate that journey. This video is filmed during a live training to give you a different perspective of the Change Model.
This video focuses on the structure around the life coaching journey provided by the Generic Model of Coaching.

Our Philosophy behind this Life Coach Training course
We have a 1-2-3 approach to life coaching. After understanding the client's goal, we 1) Understand the way the client views the world (their values, beliefs and interpretations), 2) understand the client's triggers and traits (what they like and dislike doing) and 3) create strategies based on the first two elements.
Success in life coaching comes from clients achieving their goals. In order for a life coach to help a client put strategies in place that succeed, they need to ensure that the client completes tasks that move them forward. They need to also ensure the client has a growth mindset based on personal empowering beliefs. For that reason our life coaching course focuses on understanding how individuals think and create their 'model of the world', what beliefs empower them and what beliefs hold them back, what is important to them, what they dislike and what they love. Only then can we make sure that the strategies we put in place, along with the client, have the greatest chance of success. This in turn will help us achieve more with our clients, create more clients through positive word-of-mouth referrals, and find greater success as a life coach.
So what are the skills of a successful life coach? You will learn:
As a life coach, you will show others strategies for how to succeed in life by setting goals. Setting goals and achieving them requires clients to follow processes and this course has a number of processes that will help with this.
By the end of this course, you will have the confidence to make a real difference to the lives of others, and, just as importantly, to your own life! You will be able to help your clients gain clarity and focus, after all, what is life without purpose or intention? You will be able to help your clients know what they want, how to get there, and provide strategies for action.
The course will also be updated regularly, to provide you with the very latest information and greater depth.
