Envision Developing a Survival Mindset
We live in a time of great uncertainty where anything could happen. After 9/11 and Katrina we must understand that mega-storms, public unrest, hurricanes, earthquakes can destroy the fragile public structure that is in place, and if that structure is destroyed and you and your family intend to survive you must have certain survival protocols in place. These protocols will have instructions for you and your family so that all of you can survive until the public structure is restored. There must be a priority list of survival for you and your family, for instance things like first aid kits, emergency food, two sources of water potable and non-potable water, weapons for defense and contingency plans to meet in a gathering place and to move to a safe haven until things recover. Once you arrive to your safe haven, things like utensils, pots, pans, shelter from the elements, and areas of responsibilities must be established, safety will be priority one, because once society collapse people will band together to survive at any cost. Leadership roles must be defined forms of communications must be established and the question of long-term survival must be answered. Once catastrophe hit it will be too late to plan, because panic will set it, and the clear prepared minds will prevail. Get ready for the coming storm! As a retired army infantry Man, I have been taught every type of survival technique and how to survive in any disaster and I pray this book help someone to plan for the worst.
Natural Disasters
Survival skills are techniques a person may use in a dangerous situation (e.g. natural disasters) to save themselves or others. These techniques are meant to provide necessities for human life: water, food, shelter, and habitat, the ability to think straight, to signal for help, to navigate safely, to avoid unpleasant interactions with animals and plants, and cure any present injuries. Survival skills are often basic ideas and abilities that ancient humans have used for thousands of years. Hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, fishing, hunting and many other outdoor activities all require basic wilderness survival skill.
A natural disaster is a major adverse event resulting from the earth's natural hazards, for example floods, tsunami, tornadoes, hurricanes/cyclones, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, heat waves, or landslides. A natural disaster can include loss of life, injury, economic loss, and environmental loss. The severity of the losses depends on the ability of the affected population to resist the hazard, also called their resilience. This understanding is concentrated in the formulation: "disasters occur when hazards meet vulnerability."
