Learn how the building envelope controls heat transfer through mass, materials, orientation, and u-values, and how roof and wall design influence energy performance across climate zones.
Explore how the building envelope controls heat transfer, including glazing, skylights, solar heat gain coefficient, and visible light transmission, and learn insulation selection and R-value criteria for different climates.
Define building envelope as the external boundary that governs heat and humidity transfer; examine wall, roof, floor, insulation types, infiltration, and ground contact for energy modeling.
Explore exterior door types in energy modeling with eQuest, including glass, revolving, slider, and opaque doors; place them on any wall, set dimensions and frame details, and view 3D results.
Learn to set window percentage, select glass and frame types, and place and customize windows on building facades in energy modeling with eQuest module 2.
Explore skylight design and activity area allocation in energy modelling with eQuest, including overhangs, window types, glazing options, and zone-based occupancy planning for office and restaurant buildings.
Module 2 consist the 6 Lectures that involves basics of building envelope
This Module teaches you in the following way.
Lecture 1 & 2 : This Lecture is about Building Envelope. It's like building structure in energy modelling that have four major aspects which are Wall, Glazing, Floor, Roof. Also minor aspects are shading, fins etc.
Lecture 3 : This lecture is about building envelope in eQuest Software.
Lecture 4 : This lecture is about making of Doors to the Building envelope. The software involves various form of materials and construction for door creation. Also the software allows you to create the doors either from early development mode OR Detailed edit mode.
Lecture 5 : This lecture is about making of Windows to the Building envelope. The software involves various form of materials and construction for window creation. Also the software allows you to create the doors either from early development mode OR Detailed edit mode.
Lecture 6 : This lecture is about Skylights & Area Allocation. Skylights consist two things, First one is take light from directly from Sun to illuminate the Buildings & Second one is Shading from light to reduce lightning transmittance within the building. Area Allocation is about Distribution of Building section according to different activities.
