I discuss the goals of the course and why I created it.
A little history on the development of the term.
This lesson will help you understand what we mean by Emotional Intelligence, and the different ways we measure it.
I cover the 4 related abilities that make up the model/construct of EI as an Ability.
Does EI seem to be related to job performance..and if so, how much?
The utility of EI is largely related to the job context.
I discuss work-life balance and how it relates to EI and Job Performance.
I discuss what emotional labor is, and how/when it can contribute to job performance.
Emotional exhaustion is in many ways not preventable..but does it always lead to poor job performance?
Is high level of EI necessary for job performance? Does it make sense to increase EI of all employees ?
Sometimes it is easy to forgot the day-to-day behaviors of a leader, and how EI plays a part in those activities.
Do you only get good exchanges between leaders-members when all employees have high EI?
What is authentic leadership, and why do people with high EI appear to be authentic?
What is the proper way to express yourself and why is emotional expression important?
Why is emotional regulation critical in leadership?
I discuss how priming can improve Emotional Intelligence.
Part of understanding emotions in ourselves and others is related to having a good vocabulary related to emotion.
Let's practice perceiving emotions. Consider the workplace scenario! Are you aware of your emotions as much as the emotions of others? Are you more aware of your emotions and less of others? Consider the importance of comparing people's behavior to their past behavior.
I look at some factors that are as important for organizations as EI.
In modern times, feelings are seen as irrational. Seeing feelings this way is a significant barrier to high emotional intelligence. While feelings can be irrational, accounting properly for them often leads to our best and most accurate decisions. Consider the scenario in the video and what you would do.
I give some final thoughts.
