This course is designed to take you from theoretical knowledge to practical design mastery. You'll learn the complete, step-by-step process for selecting and sizing cables, not just for simple circuits, but for complex installations requiring detailed calculations.

We move beyond the textbook and dive into real-world examples and Excel-based calculations. You will learn to think like an engineer, balancing safety, compliance, and cost.

This course bridges the gap between university theory and on-the-job requirements. We will demystify the IET Wiring Regulations and show you how to:

  1. Start with the Load: Correctly determine the operating current (Ib) and maximum demand by analyzing load profiles.

  2. Select Protection: Choose the right protective device (MCB) and its rating (In).

  3. Calculate Cable Size: Determine the required cable size based on your protection and installation method.

  4. Derate Like a Pro: This is where most errors are made. We will deeply cover applying correction factors for grouping, temperature, and thermal insulation (Ca, Cg, Ci).

  5. Verify Your Design: Ensure your cable is protected against both overload (Ib ≤ In ≤ Iz) and short-circuits, and confirm your voltage drop is within regulatory limits.
