
This course builds upon the knowledge and skills acquired in EdQuantum Courses 1 and 2. It explores advanced concepts in laser construction and operation, with an emphasis on real-world applications and system-level understanding. Participants will study advanced measurement techniques used to characterize various output properties of both low-power and high-power lasers. The course includes foundational Laser Safety Officer (LSO) training, introducing students to essential laser safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and protective equipment commonly used in a Class 4 laser laboratory environment. Learners will become familiar with specialized tools such as beam profilers, beam splitters, advanced power meters, spectrometers, and other diagnostic instruments through lab-based applications. Participants will explore the principles and operation of various laser types, including gas lasers (HeNe), ion lasers, semiconductor lasers, fiber-optic lasers, and solid-state lasers such as Nd:YAG. In addition, the course covers more advanced laser techniques such as Q-switching, mode-locking, and wavelength division multiplexing, examined from both theoretical and applied perspectives. To support learning in an online format, the course includes recorded virtual demonstrations of lab procedures and laser systems. These simulations allow students to observe and understand complex laser setups and measurement techniques in a realistic, step-by-step format, providing valuable hands-on insight in a flexible, self-paced environment.
