Hello and welcome to Dynamic Knife Defense course 101. I am your instructor Juan Sanchez. A little bit about my credentials: I have trained for over a decade and a half in martial arts. I a former Instructor in a Filipino martial arts style called Sayoc Kali and a brown belt in Doce Pares. I have also spent several years learning other FMA styles as well as Wing Chun, BJJ, Aikikai Aikido, and JKD. I hope you take what you can from this video and apply it to your training. In this lecture you will learn what equipment you will be needing, proper mindset, and basic tapping techniques to get you started.
I share twenty years of martial arts training, from psychology instruction to a brown belt, and discuss other styles to help you absorb information and train effectively.
In this quick lecture I will explain what the training mindset discipline you should have when dealing with training with a blade.
In this lecture I will be going over tapping. What it is tapping? What are the different types of basic tapping used in defense of a blade? And finally I will be going over how to use them correctly.
Master tapping analysis by applying nimble, controlled hand movements to move the opponent, react to his energy, and sidestep with a whole-arm motion to catch twitch responses.
Learn the defenses against attacker strikes and advanced attacks such as grabs and holds, in a choreographed drill that requires a training partner.
Learn when to use knife defense drills and drill order is optional. Transition from memorized techniques to sparring with defensive or offensive use, then add stress modifiers to simulate adrenaline.
Explore receiver taps in primitive knife drill 1 within dynamic knife defense 101. Learn three tapping defenses, cross and hinge taps, and steps to exit while targeting the kidney.
Practice primitive knife drill 1: grab details for six and seven, target the femoral arteries, bum rush to the chest, collapse the arm, and force footwork to guarantee safe tapping.
Demonstrate grab details 8-12 in dynamic knife defense 101, using cross and hinge techniques to control blade arm, trap arms, and disarm or walk through.
Learn practical knife disarm techniques, focusing on push and pull methods and leveraging the attacker's thumb, wrist, and arm to strip a blade safely using a trainer blade.
Explore whether knife disarms work in real attacks. Emphasize drill-based practice, one-for-one responses, and discipline and sparring to develop instinctive taps and arm isolation.
Practice sequence of primitive knife disarms, mastering thumb grip, blade strip, forearm control, and elbow leverage across drills 1–7.
Analyze disarm drills by isolating the blade hand and thumb, using push-pull motions to strip and control the blade with forearm leverage and wrist turns.
Disarm the blade while it is still carried, using advanced grip and wrist control, covering eight through twelve techniques to redirect and strip the blade in street fights.
Learn to isolate the blade arm, control it with various arm methods, switch its position, apply blocks and locks, and use patterns to deter the opponent.
Learn arm control techniques to safely deter a grip, including hyperextending the arm to prevent pulling, rolling the arm forward, elbow-on-bicep control, and transitioning to a straight right.
Learn simple armed controls from isolation, including wrist and elbow grips, a lightning bolt whip, rollovers, and transitions into and out of isolation.
Learn a quick overview of switching the blade arm in a close encounter, shifting position to control the attacker and move the blade arm more easily.
Isolate the blade with the shield arm, parry or block, and strike the hand from a front position while prioritizing blade control.
Learn how to execute a basic arm bar in knife defense, applying pressure above the elbow on the tricep, maintaining wrist control, with a quick whipping motion.
Explore arm roll details in knife defense, twisting the wrist, keeping the blade hand facing you, and using elbow manipulation to twist, turn, and strip the opponent's arm.
Shows an isolation sequence from under-grab to forearm-lock and armbar, emphasizing wrist and elbow control, chest pressure, precise footwork, and blade redirection toward the neck.
Learn practical striking patterns for knife defense, including uppercuts, elbows to the ribs, punches, knees, and groin and thigh strikes, while maintaining a side-to-side stance and practicing with padding.
Learn foot space manipulation to isolate opponents in section 5. Practice foot switching and foot controls to master the technique.
explore the t-shaped stance and how aligning perpendicular to an attacker’s feet creates balance and leverage to push them off balance.
Step wide through the doorway to disrupt the attacker’s center of gravity, forming a triangle from heels to apex, then a Y-step to push them back.
Explore foot switching techniques to disrupt balance and shift the center of gravity with outside perimeter footwork, a simple, dirty fighting approach against a blade.
Explore three advanced locks for close-quarters blade defense, including the on lock and the binding lock, and learn to transition from one halt to another.
Learn to isolate, apply a chicken wing lock, and strip the blade by inserting the thumb under the handle and sliding out the blades.
Learn the knife kill zone and imaginary bubble theory, and apply ocular tracking to enhance free-flow sparring. Integrate stress management and realistic scenarios through role-play training.
Identify the knife kill zone from shoulder to shoulder and chest, and move to safer positioning to avoid being struck, while noting knife redirection and stripping techniques.
Maintain a three-to-five foot bubble as a barrier, waiting for the attacker to extend an arm to tap the line. Do not deflect; stay behind the bubble and create space.
Master ocular tracking of the blade around the body's outline to provoke a controlled response. Use footwork, tapping maneuvers, and the imaginary line to isolate and avoid crossing the line.
Learn six methods to strip a reverse knife grip attack, using the flat of the blade, thumb grabs, wrist and elbow controls, and blade redirection to control and escape.
In this course you will learn drills, techniques and concepts on how to defend yourself effectively against a knife attack. I will teach you: different ways to deflect and parry a blade arm, how to correctly isolate and disarm a knife hand, and how to effectively move to evade knife attacks. I will also be teaching different locks from isolating the blade arm and certain techniques to using your footwork to discombobulate and unbalance the attacker.
You will learn simple to more advanced concepts along the way and have a clear understanding on how to spar and freeflow these drills and techniques with a sparring partner. I believe anyone at any level will be able to get something out of this course, especially those without any kind of training. By the end of this two and a half hour course you will have basic to intermediary knowledge of highly sought knife defense skills.
