  • Sentences11:40

In this tutorial I will focus on simple, compound and complex sentences. A simple sentence is a group of words that expresses one complete thought. It has a subject (a person or thing that is being or doing) and a predicate (the part of the sentence that tells what the subject is or does).  A compound sentence is made up of two simple sentences joined by a co-ordinating conjunction (i.e. and / but / or / nor / yet). Each part of the sentence contains its own complete verb and is called a main clause. A complex sentence is formed when two or more sentences are joined by means of a subordinating conjunction. This conjunction introduces a subordinate clause which is dependant on the main clause for its meaning.

  • Sentences Part B15:13

This tutorial will focus on writing more effective and engaging sentences. Effective writing includes sentences of varying lengths. Often two short related sentences can be combined to create a longer sentence. You’ve already learned how to make a compound sentence out of two simple sentences by using a co-ordinating conjunction. With this method, no words are lost. Expanding your sentences sometimes gives a reader additional information and can make a sentence more descriptive.

  • How to create exciting sentences!16:29

In this last tutorial of the course i will focus on how to write clear and effective sentences which will enable you to communicate and engage with your reader. Additionally,  this will help you to use  originality and imagination in your writing. Having the ability to  effectively engage your reader with the ability to use varied sentence structures in order to ensure reader engagement is the aim of this tutorial.
