Introduction to life coaching. What is life coaching? A life coach is a person who helps clients achieve their goals with their talents and abilities to make sure they reach those ideas and desires. Overall, it is reaching the people's goals and ideas and prioritizing them. Life coaches can be health coaches, relationship coaches, financial coaches, professional coaches, etc. The techniques are all the same. We have to learn the basics of each technique and then go one by one and start doing the life coaching.
We as a coach have to remember to write notes with every change and steps, change most of the time is very difficult therefore we need to be potential and take it step by steps ,in the file that we create for the client we need to put the order goals in order and prioritize them form most important to least important because coaching is about client's guidance and we need to be there for them and have empathy not sympathy for them so they feel the comfort working with you so they open up themselves to their issues that bothers them in life and why they could not be where they desired to be
Coaching is about achievements and how to guide the clients to achieve their goal, as most of the time people like to do many things in their lives but cause they have other things to do so their main goals delays and something that they could have done in a year prolongs for years and sometimes they even forget that was their designer so coach here is there to make sure everything goes the way the clients wants to and save them years therefore they don't waste their pressures time and keep them away from success.
In this video, we will talk about interviewing the client. Interviewing the client of course has to have a note and notepad and ask about overall the life at the beginning. So, interview what they are doing, what their job is, what they are studying, if they are married or not, what is their age, and then after, you ask about everything they like in their life and what they are missing in their life. Out of those you have written down, what is that you want to approach and what their goal is in life. You think about how long they thought of doing that. As a coach, you have to hold their hands and approach whatever they have on their mind or maybe they are thinking about it now. Find out about their talents. They might have interest in rocket science, but they have no experience in it. Of course we kind of lead them to something they may be better in, a more realistic goal. Of course we talk about their desires because if not, we must bring it out. We then find out the talents and desires and sometimes as a child, what was their talents and work on it.
There can be a lot of toxic phrases. They can be things like you give them 50% chance to be a negative, things that they say that something is coming, people asking would you like to buy this item or not. That "not" is an example, that "not" is giving them a 50% chance that they say "no" they don't want to buy it. It is kind of similar to that one. You say you are going to buy something good for you. Of course in coaching you are saying what is that you like to achieve. For example, to lose 50 pounds, I'm sure you can make it up to them to reach their goal. That is positive versus the negative I previously mentioned. Any negative thing can be toxic to the client because the client is there to get your help, not for you to knock down their self-confidence and come up with toxic and negative phrases. So whatever they have done for the little or full confidence they have. Even 1% less is negative here and they are toxic.
As a coach, we need to know how to ask proper questions that the way clients don't become mad or sad. The questioning here is very important, the proper questioning in a way that they are.
Understanding the client's desires to prioritize their goals. Basically meaning that there maybe have a few goals in their lives that they mention in the beginning of the interview but at the end they would like to talk about that specific desire they want to reach their goal first. Therefore, you must understand that you don't go for a second or third desire they have. Just focus on what they want to do first, what is the priority of each goal. They have many many goals but they just want that specific goal first so we focus on that first.
How to gain the client's trust. From the bottom of your heart, empathy towards your client, not sympathy and that you really want to help them and you want to gain their trust in a way that they know you the best. You can answer questions about yourself like your credentials and the way you coach and the way you pass clients if they ask you how to achieve goals with them. How you are in business and the way they gain your trust because their trust is major here. If they don't trust you, they don't open up themselves and you lose the business and also more than everything else you have to help them. If you don't trust them, how can you help them? How can you help anyone if you don't gain their trust. Trust with the client is something that they have to have confidence in you so they know that you are capable to help them, their words are not going anymore, everything is confidential between you and them, and the way you are good with the business that you are doing and that you are holding their hands to get to your desired goals. By showing them their capabilities and showing them your past also experiences and opening up to the questions as much as possible.
We have to know the knowledge of proper starting and ending an interview. So have a chart, have a file for them and write down the things in the interview of all the questions we have, every single desire in general. The picture of their life, what is their priority for them and selling goals even for ourselves and this is the thing they want for themselves, ending interviews in a way that I would towards the middle of the work I do with them find out if we are getting there and not ending it but are we going towards the right path? Go for ourself to see what the specific types of desires they have. Is it doable in 3 months for example? This one also makes every other topic I told you about important in people's lives.
Avoiding distractions in order to achieve clients main goals. Distractions for the client, distractions for us, these are two different separate things. Distractions for us to focus on what they are saying, what they want, and how to do all that to be the best; you should always be there for them, every minute that they are spending with us. And distractions of the client; if they want to achieve one goal, they don't jump to the second and third one. That is what we teach them to do.
Developing and maintaining client's motivation. Clients are motivated of course to come out and reach their goals and that is why they hire us. But sometimes in the middle of the process of work, people can get distracted or lose a little bit of self-confidence or not be as happy with themselves with the goals they are working towards. We are there to maintain their motivation in their life to reach those goals. Our work is very hard to make sure they are doing it and that is the most important part of the life coaching process.
Understanding what the client wants and how to achieve it. But understanding meaning listening properly, writing things down correctly, focusing on what they want, and coming up with a plan on how to make sure they achieve that.
Avoiding distractions, just distractions from both sides. Distraction can come from both sides in this case; distraction can come up from lack of concentration, the client jumping from one goal to another one, distraction can come up with clients talking about one thing to achieve that goal and then start talking about another goal they have. Distraction can even come from our side to ask them questions that are not related to specific goals so these are things that we must make sure does not happen.
We're gonna find out if the client is really motivated. Sometimes the client wants to do something, likes to do something, have that thing in their mind, go and reach their goal but they are not motivated to do it. The motivation is actually the key for everything because if they are not motivated they can talk about it forever but they never step up and do it. We want to make sure the motivation is there and keep up with that.
Ask about client's best interests. There are things that clients want to do but we have to make sure that it is in our best interest. For example, the client wants to be a swimmer, like the best swimmer in the world, but they want to jump in the cold freezing water and their immune system is not allowing that. I'm just coming up with a funny example, but we have to make sure it is in their best interest and ability and if they can do it or not. We have to make sure it is in their best interest to go towards that goal so we don't waste their time and our time.
Market research to understand your ideal client. What does that mean? Meaning that we should be good enough for what we are helping people with. Again what is it? We should know that we are a very good health coach. If I do it, I mark it and target those types of clients. If I'm good at financial coaching, I go and target those types of clients. If I am not good at financial coaching, I should not approach these types of clients because I will not be able to do a good job. If I am good at being a relationship coach, I should mark which types of clients I should approach because it is to my best ability and I am good at it. This marketing is another part of being a life coach.
We start to build our coaching package. We have to have everything ready, the package must be ready and that is step by step. What question are we going to ask; type it up, have everything ready in the file so it is all ready for the next client. Each one of them have their certain question from interviewing to their goals and we have to prepare this package so we have in mind what we are doing with the client.
