What you'll learn
- This course will give students the fundamentals necessary to draw what they see accurately, before they begin their painting.

- using shapes to create objects
- placement in space of objects in a group
- "sight size" using a brush handle or pencil to determine proportions
- building the drawing using relationships within the subject (using angles to create reference marks)
- drawing from life or photos
Requirements
- No prior knowledge is needed. This is a great starting point for new painters or a valuable reminder and resource for existing painters.
- You will need a newsprint pad or sketch pad (preferably 11x14 or larger), pencil or vine charcoal stick, marker, eraser, ruler or straight edge. a chamois cloth or paper towel.
Description
Drawing for Painters covers the skills that every painter needs. This course addresses the common problems artists encounter. Your instructor, Desiree Holmes Scherini, is an artist and arts instructor, recognized as a top painting instructor, she has been teaching drawing and painting since 2003. In this course she takes you through lessons just as she would in her classroom, with easygoing presentation full of valuable information. Here you have your private lessons to use whenever needed, with instructional drawings provided in resources to download and use. This course will give you the tools to start right and move quickly to a successful painting!

Instructor
Desiree Holmes Scherini Enjoys capturing the essence and beauty in the world around her through her art. She particularly enjoys seeing and sharing the color of forms. She works in several different media, including pastel, oil, watercolor, pencil and charcoal. She enjoys painting a variety of subjects, and particularly enjoys landscapes, portraits, and figure painting and drawing. She has painted extensively “en Plein Air” (outdoors, from life) and is one of the featured artists in the book “100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic”. Desiree is an adjunct faculty art instructor at Anne Arundel Community College and an art instructor at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts and the Columbia Art Center. She also holds her own painting workshops. She was recognized as a top art instructor in 2017 and 2018 by Expertise Magazine. Desiree participates in several area art groups. She is a board member of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association and past board member of the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters, Annapolis Watercolor Club and Annapolis Arts Alliance. She is a juried "signature member" of both the Maryland Pastel Society and the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters. Her art has been displayed in several juried and non-juried shows and is in homes and businesses across the United States and overseas and has been featured on posters and in other public venues. Besides her art career, she is a certified Hypnotherapist and Life Coach, and holds several certifications in wellness. She is also the author of the Amazon best seller - “Journey to Joy – The Written Path”. Desiree is represented by Whitehall Gallery in Annapolis, Maryland and Bishop's Stock Gallery, Snow Hill, Maryland.
