learn to draw a realistic 3d glass mug with graphite and colored pencils in a beginner-friendly workshop led by a professional painter from Tel Aviv.
A professional painter shares a lifelong journey from early beginnings to mastering realism and photorealism, teaching techniques learned through extensive study and travel.
Explore essential drawing tools for this class: graphite pencils (HP strong), a black colored pencil, erasers, a sharpener, two rollers, and white smooth 250-gram paper to capture texture.
Explore the theory of light and shadow used in classical academies, using cone, ball, cube, and cylinder to create 3D illusion through highlights, reflected light, and directional shading.
Explore graphite pencils and how grade affects darkness and texture, focusing on HP for mid-range shading and black pencils for darker tones, while using paper texture with tissue.
Master the shadow scale by building five value squares from lightest to darkest with HP and a black pencil, then practice texture, layering, and careful erasing on paper.
Plan proportions for a 3d glass mug by marking a central vertical line, using color-coded steps, and drawing main straight and circular guides to shape the handle and rims.
Draw the glass mug's main proportions by establishing a central midline, top and bottom guides, and circular forms; refine with negative space, rulers, and intuitive adjustments.
Add the shadow and lighten construction lines to reveal the glass form, then erase unneeded lines while keeping essential ones for structure as you prepare for shading.
Learn to separate light from shadow by using an HB pencil to lay a light tone over dark areas, aiming for even pressure and a smooth texture across large regions.
Maintain light-shadow separation on the glass mug, shade the shadow with HB graphite, and smooth texture with tissue; squint to match the darkest volumes for the average shadow value.
Master graphite shading to render a realistic glass mug by layering value with a graphite pencil, balancing edge control and paper wear, applying average values before moving to darker tones.
Use a black colored pencil to deepen shadows on a 3D glass mug, keeping light areas untouched, squinting to judge value and refine proportions with two pencils, pausing when needed.
Develop realism in the glass mug by adjusting light areas and shadows with an HB pencil, squinting to match values, then refine textures, edges, and details.
Develop a smooth glass texture by gently shading with paper to blend dark and light values, then refine with eraser and pencil while watching soft and hard edges.
Refine the smoothed drawing by reapplying graphite and colored pencil to balance values, edges, and proportions. Flip the drawing to check details and trust the process.
Master 3d glass rendering by adding light acrylic highlights, refining shadows and edges with kneaded and pencil erasers, and cutting the paper to reveal the mug emerging.
Hi, my name is Guy and I am a hyperrealist painter with many years of experience. I studied under many teachers all over the world and also at a classical drawing and painting academy in Barcelona.
In this course I will teach you how to draw a 3D glass mug and along the way I will teach you about proportions, drawing tools, light and shadow, texture and much more.
We are going to start by talking the materials I am going to use. then we move to speak about the classical order of light and how to approach light and shadow. we are also going to speak about common mistakes people have about hyperrealism drawing. I am going to show you all the process from A-Z. I want to show also the difficulties you may encounter.
Painting is a process. Every time I draw something new I don't know what the exact process will be. We can only learn as many tools as possible and gain experience in the hope that it will help us. Follow the steps of the course and draw at the same time. I would love you to share the final results with me and ask questions.
