The reference image required for doing the outline
A quick guide to installing the app with the direct link to the Google play store provided in the Resources.
We use the reference image to draw the outline. Many prominent and famous artists have used man made contraptions for drawing accurate faces, but fortunately in our modern day we have easier ways to load the image like the Trace mode of drawing in Paintology.
Make sure to zoom in on the eyes to get an accurate representation of the outline of the eyes. The outline should include essential information of the form and elements of the face and not the whole drawing.
In the next section, we will do the details of the face without the aid of the reference image in the trace mode and use a reference image near us for this drawing. However, if you are still not comfortable in drawing in this freehand manner feel free to switch between trace and your canvas to do the rest of the face. This will only help you to develop your skills further and you can confidently move to the freehand style of doing drawings.
This is the full drawing process by taking the outline and referring to the reference image that you can have by your side, for example a printout.
Try to look over the drawing video first so you can understand the process that I have used for this drawing. Remember, if you are new to this, it's always best to go step by step until you are comfortable to develop your own styles and method for drawing with the Paintology app.
Digital drawing should be fun and easy! With Paintology, you focus more on developing your drawing skills rather than get bogged down by the tools. The intuitive interface of the app allows you to immediately pick up the tools needed for the drawing. This is further demonstrated by this black and portrait drawing that you can do and feel proud of.
All you need is the free Paintology app available from the Google playstore and install on your phone or tablet. It is recommended that to get the most out of this drawing exercise, to use a tablet with a stylus. However, the zoom function will enable you to draw the details on your phone to get you going.
