
The traced mode of drawing is an excellent way to improve your overall drawing skills. It touches on some fundamental aspects of drawing which include developing your drawing strokes, understanding shape and form, appreciating tonal variations in an image that you are trying to draw.

Loading the reference image into the Paintology canvas to enable you find tones using the color picker and also create accurate outlines for drawings.
You can set the background color of the drawing using this feature. Make sure to do this prior to the drawing.
In this traced mode of drawing, you are using the trace bar to switch between the reference image and your canvas. This allows you to pick colors from the reference image and apply to your canvas. In addition, it will help you to draw the strokes by following the reference image, just set the trace bar to a comfortable position where you can see the reference image as well as your drawing strokes.
Don't worry if you don't get the drawing exactly as you wanted. especially if you are just starting out. Just keep practicing and make progress little by little. You can save the drawing and always come back to it. Above all, don't give up, especially if your goals are to learn drawing and improve your skills.

Many old masters have used the techniques of tracing to get accurate form and shape in their drawings. It also accelerates your drawing skills and techniques especially for subjects that require a high degree of accuracy, for example portrait drawing.
In this modern age of digital technology there are tools available for doing tracing and the Paintology app has a unique feature called the traced mode. In this mode of drawing, you have the trace option just like the traditional method but in addition, it has the ability to pick out tones in the underlying reference image. This is fundamental to understanding and appreciating tones which a requirement for good drawing.
