Distal Method Learning Coaching & Counseling
What you'll learn
- Learning coaching
- Learning counseling
- Distal Method Principles
- Learning mechanism
The Distal Method is both a method and a methodology for attaining world-class expertise in motor and cognitive domains. Motor domains may be said to be sports, cognitive domains may refer to the sciences and all in between.
Now, it is a method because it provides specific guidelines and a methodology because it gives you the framework to create your own custom-made tools that can be used for yourself or for others.
In this course we will explore what the Distal Method is, why it is called this way, its scientific and other kinds of background, its pillars, its parts and finally its guidelines. You will learn how it was developed over a period spanning many years and after considerable scientific and practical work. This will provide you with a sense of identity of how it is to be a Distal Method learning coach and counselor for others or even for your own personal growth – but remember: the Distal Method is all about attaining world class performance, not just a collection of tricks to help you improve your tennis serve or pass a biology exam.
What will you get out of it? Well, since you are so interested in learning and super-learning, you might already know that the mechanisms leading to learning are not so crystal-clear to scientists as many believe – even many advanced educators themselves have a somewhat simplistic understanding and approach to how people actually learn. For example they believe that instructionism (telling someone what to do) explains learning. The Distal Method is a work exactly on that area, on what learning is and how do we get the most out of it? Do I need to be a talent – quick answer: no not really – and also, how I can become an expert in any area I choose to.
After you finish this course not only you will have a great understanding of the whole learning process at every level, but also you will be able to actually transform any learning activity into a successful, enjoyable and concise experience that gives you and your clients all the bang for the buck!
Who this course is for:
- Learners, Teachers, Trainers, Life/Learning coaches & counselors
PhD in Ethics & Epistemology, Post-doc in Bioinformatics, MSc in Medicine, Distal Method Creator.
Konstantinos G. Papageorgiou (PhD in Epistemology and Ethics), born in Athens, Greece. My area of focus is knowledge. I am actively interested in everything related to knowledge since I believe that a unified approach works best when it comes to both understanding and contributing science.
Influenced by the mathematician / composer D.E. Lekkas, I have founded the epistemological peer-reviewed journal Epistēmēs Metron Logos which I also run as the publishing director.
Apart from epistemology that is the philosophical field dealing with the validation, the source and the structure of knowledge (esp. when it comes to episteme and science), other knowledge-related research interests are:
Declarative and procedural types of knowledge
Acquisition of knowledge (always referring to both types)
Neurophysiological substrates of knowledge
Dissemination of knowledge
Teaching and education
Expertise (special and general)
Scientific (empiristic) vs epistemonic (theoretical) knowledge
My expertise in sports science is mostly related to the acquisition of motor expertise, where I follow a holistic approach. This has led to the creation of the Distal Method for expertise attainment. Important contributions to my worldview about education and expertise have always been my own engagement with classical music (its theory and as a guitarist), martial arts and tennis. Special needs education and psychotherapy (through both western and eastern traditions) complete my profile as a knowledge seeker.
