Welcome. I am Frank Minghella, professional photographer and media teacher. I am passionate about photography and simply love to teach others how to unleash their inner creativity.
A simple look at the concept of image capture to get you in the mood. Did you know the basic process has been around for centuries. It is all about capturing light, which we call exposure and a photograph is simply an exposure.
Taking a look inside a camera you will discover the three elements that determine exposure. Aperture Size, Shutter Speed and ISO. In this lecture you I will introduce you to all three using a beautiful animation.
The Exposure Triangle shows the relationship between the elements and how it is a balance of all three that creates a perfectly exposed photograph.
This wonderful animation demonstrates how the balance of the three elements works. Make a change to one element and one if not both of the other two elements would need to change to maintain the balance.
In this lecture you will learn how to control Depth of Field with Aperture Size to create amazing photographs. We all love a blurry background. This is your first opportunity to take part and shoot some photographs.
In this lecture you will learn how to freeze the action or capture motion using Shutter Speed to create exciting images. This is another opportunity for you to practise your new skills,
ISO can be our friend but high ISO numbers introduce unwanted noise which can be a problem. We always aim for a low ISO value but shouldn't be afraid of higher values. In this lecture you will find out why.
Two file formats. but which is best? Spoiler alert RAW is the choice of professionals. However JPEGS really are fine but you will learn that RAW files have so much more information allowing you to unleash their potential.
Did you know every location has a specific colour temperature? We use the WB control to select the correct setting for a specific location...or simply use AWB - Auto White Balance
Switch between modes using the Mode wheel, but what do those acronyms actually mean? In this lecture I will guide you through the key modes and describe each in detail.
Confused by so many buttons and options? In this lecture I will show you how to make changes and introduce you to the quick menu.
The Manual mode is fantastic but capturing the perfect creative photograph can be a lot quicker using the semi-automatic modes. Simply select an aperture size and let the camera do the rest.
