Learn to transform a digital sketch into a refined line ready for color using tools, inspiration boards, references, refined composition, and over painting with layers on a tablet.
Create an inspiration board to collect images that spark your piece, emphasizing form, mood colors, energy, and dynamic poses for a blade master illustration.
Save your illustration in lossless formats like png or tiff rather than psd or jpeg; keep an original copy and make a smaller web version at 1000–1200 px.
Learn to paint shadows with a desaturated base color for warm or cool light, using multiply layers, clipping masks, hard brush, airbrush, and edge sharpening.
Prepare by checking canvas size and performance, save a separate PSD, and merge layers to reduce file size while managing blending modes and clipping to preserve transparency.
For this class you will need a graphics tablet (or tablet with pen stylus)!
Are you curious about getting into digital illustration but don't where to start? Are you a seasoned artist wanting to streamline your workflow by completely digitizing your process? Whether you're a beginner or a pro, I can teach you some new tips and tricks. This is just the class for you!
In this class I will explain my process on how to transform a digital sketch into a refined line art ready for color. We will start by going over useful tools that make digital sketching easier, then we will dive into the ways that make the illustration process a lot smoother. We will explore new ways to generate ideas, create inspiration boards, take references, refine composition and safely edit your refined piece. Over the years, I have learned and collected multiple different rendering techniques from many artists. After learning and studying how other artists create their forms, I began to combine the ones that looked the best for my illustrations. The best part about this method is that after you finish your under painting, you can either declare yourself done or continue to refine the drawing further! Not only that, it allows for colors to harmonize naturally without much editing later. You can further enhance your drawing through the application of over painting and special effects to really wow the viewer!

PLEASE NOTE: In this class I will be using Adobe Photoshop during my process but most of these tips and tricks can be replicated in other digital painting programs.
