Compare vector and pixel art to reveal how vectors stay crisp at any size while pixels pixelate at high zoom, with Castlevania pixel art examples and 4K file sizes.
Explore the brush engine across digital art software by examining brush tip, brush shape, jitter, spraying, textures, and dynamics, then duplicate and tweak a brush to learn.
Explore art as problem-solving, embrace learning fundamentals, and apply the scientific method to practice with feedback, using books, videos, online courses, and tutorial sheets.
Discover comfortable digital art tablet setups, from iPad use to Wacom Cintiq options, while taking breaks to prevent eye strain and exploring Clip Studio Paint, Procreate, or Photoshop.
The entry level tablet is most students foray into digital art. It can be difficult at first but with practice you can succeed.
Using a stand helps
Discover budget tablet stand alternatives for digital art beginners, using affordable laptop stands and simple DIY supports like MDF boards and Velcro to hold your drawing tablet.
Open your digital art software, warm up with the pencil tool, and learn to break drawings into simple shapes, arcs, cylinders, and spheres, to build form.
Trying to draw "perfect" is not what art is about. You are learning how to draw so be patient!
Learn how to set canvas size and dpi for digital art, from 72 dpi to 300 dpi, avoid pixelation by choosing raster versus vector workflows.
Practice writing your name to feel the stylus on screen, bridge paper texture and digital line drawing, and draw along with me through simple, patient exercises.
Build line control through focused practice, drawing evenly spaced strokes on a digital canvas and learning to lift and reset for clean lines, use undo and copy-paste to refine mistakes.
Practice arcs, circles, and ellipses to build foundational drawing skills, marking the center and constructing shapes. Improve stylus control, erasing, and shading as you create eyes and simple plant forms.
Trying to draw ellipses and circles is just like writing zeroes and the letter "O" which. Very similar to writing in cursive (for those of you that can do that).
Combine circles, lines, and arcs to form eggs and ovals, using a center line and major and minor axes to guide shapes; practice producing multiple shapes to improve drawing skills.
Locate the center of ovals and circles by dividing shapes along major and minor axes using center lines and crosshairs, with layers and transform tools to verify alignment.
Warm up by sketching circles, ovals, teardrops, and bean shapes, learn to place center lines, minor and major axes, and contour lines, and fill medium shapes to complete assignment one.
Rename and lock layers, create a new angles layer, and copy and align angular shapes using the lasso and transform tools to achieve accurate angles within a few degrees.
Drawing the sphere is another "essential" art shape. It is the base shape for many organic forms. Drawing the human head and turning it in space is important . Pay close attention to this lecture and try to imagine what forms you can make.
Drawing the square, drawing the rectangle, drawing the box is something you may be familiar with. That simple basic shape is the basis of so many objetcs.
The Cylinder is very powerful. Its the building blocks of arms , legs and so much more.
Cylinder practice. You can never practice this form enough.
This is all about turning the cylinder and to get you thinking more like an artist. You can do this exercise on pen/pencil and paper.
Simple organic shapes. Seeing in "3d" is very important. This is all about seeing the form in 3 dimensions. Be sure to download the Sheets of more organic shapes for practice.
More shape training. Learning to see like an artist is very important.
Time to get active, if you haven't already. I will be drawing more forms and shapes. jump in and draw them with me.
Begin a five-minute sprint to warm up with circles and organic shapes, smoothing lines on your tablet; use delete or undo as you experiment with different wrist and elbow movements.
