Welcome to Diaphragmatic Breathing... Whether you are a singer or a musician or a voice user I am excited for your journey and I hope you make the most out of it because you can definitely do it…Follow my steps and keep practicing, do your exercises and then apply it to your singing, speeches, workouts, acting, your everyday life or whatever it is that you do.
Don't forget to download your slides and pdf downloads...Read them and go through them with the video lessons :)
The equipment will only help you achieve your goals. When you feel comfortable and confident put the equipment aside and start breathing standing up without using anything else.
This is good for you if you want to breathe better for your health or you are a voice user or you want to start singing. If you are just starting singing, this is one of the first things you have to learn. If you are a singer already you should know that we always go back to the basics. I also use some of these exercises to this day, before I start my daily warm up.
There are many names for this type of breathing. The diaphragm is actually very popular even to people who don’t sing. Many voice teachers (if I am talking about singing for a moment), argue about this a lot and there are many ideas and opinions about this. In singing and teaching singing, there is what actually happens inside the body and there is also the imagery and the feeling that we singers use to understand and produce the sound we want to produce). Just to clarify the term 'Breathe through your diaphragm' is not actually correct (regarding to what happens inside your body) because we don’t do that. The diaphragm just moves while we inhale and exhale, but using this name is an easy way to help you work in the right places and understand some singing concepts. If you want to be a voice teacher or a singer who wants to know exactly what happens then you should know this. The diaphragm does take to much credit most of the times, but the truth is, that there are other muscles in the body which are also responsible for breathing and good singing. I do use these 'wrong phrases' sometimes even though I try to avoid it for confusion with students and fellow colleagues, but because it is so well known sometimes it helps to introduce it this way.
When you are lying down, this type of breathing usually happens naturally, that is why I want you to start practicing this lying down. You might need to pause the video to repeat or go back if you don’t get it, as many times as you need. Do it at your own pace
DON’T STOP PRACTICING, we are doing this standing up in front of the mirror in the beginning to check that we are doing it correctly, don’t stress to much once you get the hang of it it will become second nature to you and it will be way easier. Don’t forget that at the end of the day all we want is a natural relaxed, controlled, steady and healthy sound.
As everything in life we need to work and practice if we want to improve on something. Life is too short to be lazy ! you can do it! :)
One might say what will happen if I don’t warm up? Nothing really if you do it once or twice or maybe 10 times, but if you want to keep doing it and using your voice in the healthiest way possible it is a must to always warm up, just like it is a must to stretch before you run or lift heavy weights.
BREATH BETTER TO SING / SPEAK BETTER
Although this is something you already do in your everyday life, without you realizing, I want you to become more aware of it and engage it with singing/speaking.
In the Course we go through explanation, exercises and practice in order to achieve good breath management and support (which is ONE of the most important techniques for singers), to improve your singing and speaking voice. It also includes two extra bonus videos, regarding warming up your voice which is something you should never avoid before using your voice. Breathing is one of the first things you should learn when starting singing, and something you should always work on as a growing singer. Once you get the hang of this, there are more techniques you should work on to continue growing as a singer/ voice user. More courses coming soon…
This mini course is for any type of voice user (Singers, Teachers, Actors, Radio Show Hosts, Voice Teachers, Voice Over, Telephone Operators..etc), who wants to learn, improve, or stay in shape with producing a healthy, steady, correct sound through proper breath management and support, to avoid strain, tension, vocal damage, vocal fatigue, and abnormal sound.
(Also includes downloadable PDF files and Presentation Slides to make your learning process more efficient & productive.)
We learn to sing/speak the proper way, the healthy way, the fun way, and the smart way.
