Have you ever wondered why we have eyebrows?
What are their purpose and function?
Why would anyone have two (or for some, one!) patches of hair over the eyes?
According to Sadr, Jarudi and Sinha, the eyebrows may be remnants of our evolutionary ancestors (2003).
Our primate ancestors had hair all over their faces and, slowly, the amount of hair on the face was reduced. Being that the eyebrows survived our evolutionary history, they must be around for a purpose.
However, the eyebrows arguably play a far more important role in communication and the revelation of emotions. Furthermore, studies have shown that the eyebrows play a key role in facial recognition. Today, cleanly trimmed eyebrows have come to be associated with beauty. Many women tweeze or wax their eyebrows and even men have gotten into the habit of trimming their unwanted brow hair.
How do people use the eyebrows to communicate non-verbally?
What roles do the eyebrows play?
What messages can be sent through eyebrow gestures?
Research has shown that eyebrows play am important role in non verbal communication.
The eyebrows play an inherently important role in face recognition, as well as aiding in discriminating between male and female faces.
Researchers found that eyebrows aided in facial recognition because they are a constant feature; they remain a stable facial feature.
Anatomy and Physiology of the Hair
It is important to have an understanding of the structures you will be working with, and how they function so that you can be to develop your skills and know the effect that services will have on the body.
The objective when working with any face shape is to create symmetry and balance. The Oval face shape has been considered the most desirable, because it provides a background for the precise proportion of the other facial features.
This standard shape was determined by overlapping the various face shapes. The converging lines gave birth to the oval face. However, other facial shapes are just as attractive.
We must work to enhance the clients face shape and highlight the features that are most pleasing.
The client consultation is the time for the practitioner to set the most professional image and inspire confidence in the client.
The consultation should be the time to inform the client about what the procedure entails and what to expect, as well as give tips for better results.
Preparation is as important as the service it self.
Good lighting is important to a waxing treatment area. Incandescent lighting is the most flattering and is the closest to natural light
Choose music that is relaxing and not offensive. This helps to relax the client and put there anxiety about the procedure at ease
The treatment table should be at a height that is comfortable and healthy for the back and spine.
Waxing can get messy, so the treatment table should b e protected with a fitted sheet and covered with a paper-liner.
Clients can be particular about hair removal services. Hair removal is a personal service and good results are important to clients.
The most common problem with hair removal is poor technique.
We have included step-by-step procedures for you to follow when practicing specific techniques
When it comes to brow design, trimming is not something that is usually done. I personally feel that trimming can help make your job a lot easier.
When you trim long, and unruly hair, it helps you asses the hairs that you intend to remove, it also eliminates the chance of long hairs that were meant to remain from falling into the wax.
You will also notice some peoples eyebrow hair naturally grows in a downward fashion, when you trim these brows it can create the arch in itself and you may not need to wax.
Eyebrow waxing is the most commonly requested service. Applying the wax as well as learning hand coordination takes practice. Once you have mastered the waxing technique and clients feel comfortable and satisfied, they may very well consider waxing other areas of the body or returning for other treatments.
