Welcome to AI Capability and Work Design. This introduction explains the course’s practical, human-centred purpose, what you will learn, how to use the course and the principle that guides every lecture: AI assists. Humans decide. Institutions remain accountable.

Requirements

  • No prior AI or technical experience is required. Bring an interest in improving work and making responsible decisions about AI.

Description

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

AI tools are increasingly easy to access. Designing better, safer and more accountable work is much harder.

AI Capability and Work Design provides a practical, human-centred approach to introducing AI into real workplaces. Instead of beginning with what a tool can do, this course begins with the outcome the work must produce, the people affected and the decisions that must remain accountable.

Throughout the course, you will learn how to:

  • Analyse tasks, workflows, handoffs and decision points.

  • Identify where AI can assist and where human judgement must remain central.

  • Define clear outcomes before selecting an AI capability.

  • Provide appropriate information, instructions and boundaries.

  • Verify AI outputs against the evidence and the task requirements.

  • Protect privacy, security, confidentiality and intellectual property.

  • Match controls to consequence, uncertainty and reversibility.

  • Establish decision rights, approval pathways and escalation conditions.

  • Pilot, monitor and improve AI-enabled work over time.

  • Present a responsible and implementable work-system design.

The course uses practical explanations, workplace scenarios, reflection activities and a structured work-system blueprint. You do not need technical expertise, programming skills or previous experience with artificial intelligence.

This course is designed for managers, team leaders, HR and learning professionals, business owners, advisers and practitioners responsible for introducing, managing or governing AI at work.

The guiding principle is simple:

AI assists. Humans decide. Institutions remain accountable.

By the end of the course, you will be able to design AI-enabled work that improves capability and performance while preserving human judgement, proportionate controls, trust and clear accountability.

The course is supported by the companion ebook, AIRBOK: The Human Capability Framework for Responsible AI, which provides additional concepts and resources for continued learning.

Who this course is for:

  • Managers, team leaders, HR and L&D professionals, business owners, advisers and practitioners responsible for introducing or governing AI at work.
