DIY your way to holiday cheer—Photoshop style! This beginner-friendly course is part of a 4-course series, each featuring a different design and guiding you step-by-step, from a new blank Photoshop document, all the way to a finished (fully customizable), ready-to-print, holiday card. Use it as is—or as an inspirational starting point!
As you make your way through the course, you'll gain real-world experience in sought after Photoshop skills including:
formatting documents for print
working with color
adding and styling type
correctly saving to various file formats
adding special effects like pattern overlays
and so much more
Everything you need is included: The carefully curated fonts, the pattern files, and illustrations. I'll even share my personal recommendation on where to order your finished cards from.
All you need to bring to the table are whatever photo(s) you want to include, and access to Photoshop. It doesn't even have to be a current (or even recent) version. Really. Everything this design involves is accessible in pretty much any edition of Photoshop. (Yes, that even includes Photoshop Elements.)
So let's do this. Make your holiday cards something special this year— design them yourself!
- Anyone who loves design, is interested in Photoshop, and has a DIY spirit!
Details can be sexy! In this lecture, we'll set up the vertical 5x7 document. As you'll see, even though the finished card will be 5x7, the actual Photoshop document size will be 5.252" x 7.252" to accommodate the bleed (aka: trim) area that will be cut from the final printed piece during production.
Let's add some color! In this lecture you'll learn how to work with color swatches and keyboard shortcuts to fill the background with color. Then, discover how to add a pattern overlay for a touch of texture and visual interest.
Reindeer time! Here, we'll add a vector illustration (included) and learn how to manipulate it to control the size, color, and position. Finish it off with a shape tool and and a red fill to give Rudolph his famous nose. Finally, make it glow with an outer glow layer effect!
Add a fun holiday message with a beautiful, hand-drawn brush typeface. (FREE!) Discover how to access fine tune control over the most minute details using the Character panel.
Add your photos! In this lecture you'll learn how to build a simply photo layout using the power of clipping masks. Don't have four kiddos? No problem! You can customize the layout however you want. No kids? Substitute pictures of your pets, yourself, your partner, or even some of your favorite photos from a recent trip. You're the boss!
