This is the intro to the course and how to apply to participate in a live design thinking workshop as a participant or as a facilitator.
Design Thinking is a framework that comes from the Human Centered Design Methodology. In this lesson we want to go back in time for you to understand the origins of design thinking, how and why it was developed.
We also talk about the main principles of Human Centered Design: creativity, empathy and business needs, always focusing in the user's needs.
Here we talk about the timeline of design thinking, from its origins in the 60s to the current digital era.
We also point out different versions of the process and the main schools where to get officially certified.
This lesson talks about the process of innovation in business design and when can we use design thinking in that process, comparing it with other frameworks such as lean start up or agile methodologies like scrum, OKRs or Kanban.
This is an overview of the 5 steps process: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test.
We also talk about the environment and the tools you, as a facilitator should prepare to organize a workshop (online of offline)
Understand what the concept DOUBLE DIAMOND means, how to use your right and your left brain to have better ideas and how the design thinking helps you to come up with better solutions thanks to the process: thinking outside the box and focusing with logic.
Co-creation is the process of developing new concepts, products or services in teamwork with suppliers, customers, stakeholders, experts, and/or employees.
In this lesson we will also talk about the different types of co-creation.
Story telling activates 3 hormones in your brain, dopamine, endorphins and oxytocin. In this lesson we talk about the impact of storytelling during the process of design thinking and how and when can we use it.
We also talk about the Hero's journey from Joe Campbell as a technique for storytelling
Before we start a design thinking workshop, we have to define what we call the How Might We (HMW) question that explains the challenge we are working on.
It sounds easier than it really is, so in this lesson I help you to formulate the challenge in the right way to be open enough to different ideas but focused enough not to feel lost.
In this lesson we start with the process more into detail, starting with its first step, empathize and how can we conduct this first step in a workshop and the techniques we can use.
We have a whole explanatory guide and a whiteboard designed for those who would love to facilitate a workshop.
In this lesson we are learning a technique to define the problem, which is different than the challenge!
Here I am explaining what is the POV or Point of View and how it can help you to write and communicate the real problem to solve.
We get to the most fun part of the process, ideation!
Brainstorm yourself in our Q&A section, how many businesses can you create related to a cow?
Here I am giving you some tips about warm ups that you can use and some ideation techniques.
How can you prototype an idea? Here I have listed some techniques, maybe you already knew LEGO SERIOUS PLAY, did you also know PLAYMOBIL PRO?
What if you are attending an online workshop? How can you prototype something? Here I am also talking about these options, and we have the challenge to DO IT for REAL in our live workshop.
Now that you have a prototype, what is next? Here I am adding some techniques to test your prototype, specially the feedback grid attached that you can also use to send your FEEDBACK about this course.
Thank you very much and do not forget to get in touch if you want to experience the workshop while working on a social cause.
Design Thinking is a process that you can learn and a skill that you can master with practice and that will help you to be more emphatic and creative. With this course you will understand why empathy and flexibility are crucial to improve or create better products, services, processes or business models. Also how to prepare a workshop, lead participants and deal with conflict by using the Design Thinking tools.
Design Thinking is much more that one framework to follow a process, while applying Design Thinking and without even realizing, we are improving other skills such as:
- Creativity and critical thinking, as we are training our left and right brain with convergent and divergent thinking
- Team work and conflict management, that is why a framework helps us to learn techniques to deal with people's egos, democratize and prioritize ideas and learn with data analysis
- Being agile and time management, since we use time boxing for every tool
Within the course, you will find extra materials and a challenge, that you can share in our Slack community, getting also inspired by other people’s cool ideas.
Remember, 80% of success is just getting started!
After completing the course, you have the opportunity to participate in a real virtual workshop where we use challenges provided by NGO partners and we learn by helping.
