In This Lecture: Make Boring Topics Interesting
Attract your audience to the presentation with content they won’t be able to resist, and keep them there by subtly revealing to them the underlying emotional reasons they should want it. This section will help you create core content that is exactly what your audience wants to hear, put it into a form that makes it easy for you to deliver, and use it to make a killer first impression.

How to Use The “Your Turn” Lectures:
At the end of every video lecture is a section called “Your Turn.” It consists of the highlights of the lecture and some exercises that will help you put the ideas into action to create your own presentation, deliver it well, and manage the audience like an expert.
Since many of the exercises require your written answers, I recommend that you record them by hand in a notebook set aside for this purpose, or write them on your computer and print them out and keep them in a binder so you can have them accessible for quick reference as you work on putting the principles in this course into practice.
In This Lecture: Hide Your Nerves and Fear
When I speak to anyone about giving presentations, and specifically about fears and nervousness, there is one thing I tell them that immediately offers them some comfort: It’s okay to be nervous. You just can’t show it. Simply learning how to appear calm will help you to become calm. If you’re not nervous, you still need this section, because you may be showing nerves and not even know it! In this section, you’ll discover the top 12 signs that you are showing nerves (whether you have them or not) and you’ll learn effective strategies to show more confidence when you speak.

In This Lecture: Make Comfortable Small Talk
People often struggle to get the audience to respond to them positively and this will reduce their ability to convey their message. The way to resolve this problem is to remember the presentation is not about you; it’s about them. Focusing on the needs of others keeps you from worrying about yourself, but more importantly, can help the people you are presenting to feel more comfortable talking with you. Many presenters find that one way to engage the audience and get them on your side, even before a presentation starts, is interacting personally with some of the audience members during the period known as welcome time. If you’re not naturally good at making small talk, here are techniques that will make it easier.

In This Lecture: Keep Them Listening and Interacting
You have to show your audience that in order to get the information they’ve come to hear, they have to listen to you. This advice seems deceptively obvious. I tell it to people who’ve come to me for presentation advice and they nod in agreement, as if to say, “Got it.” But they haven’t.
How do I know? Because the following example is somewhat typical: Sitting in the audience while observing a client during her presentation, I noticed although people were pretending to look at the presenter, most of the time they were using their open laptops to go shopping and check email. Afterward, I asked if she realized they weren’t listening.
“But they were,” she protested. “They were looking at me.”
“People can seem to be looking at you but not be listening. I mastered that skill in high school,” I said. “Let me ask you something: Do you enjoy being a presenter?”
“I love it,” she said.
“Are you bored while you present?” I asked.
“Not at all. It’s stimulating because I’m active all the time.”
“Which do you prefer? Presenting or listening.”
“Presenting,” she said. “I hate sitting passively while someone drones on—” As the shock of recognition passed across her face, she cut herself off, “Do you think that’s how my audience feels?”
Yes.
I suggested a challenge: Find a way to keep the listeners in the audience as stimulated and engaged as you are as a presenter.
In this section, I’m going to show you how to do just that.

In This Lecture: Tailor Your Approach to Any Audience
You may routinely give presentations on different topics to a particular kind of audience (a group of physicians, for example, or executives, or even a convocation of college students). You may also give presentations on the same topic to audiences of all different types. In either case, there will be times when you want to make the presentation even more effective by spending some advance time tailoring it for a specific audience.
It’s even more challenging when you arrive at a presentation only to discover the composition of your audience is not what you expected. Or, even if you’ve done your research and prepared very carefully for your audience, you realize that their expectations are different from what you had anticipated. In these cases, you’ll also have to tailor your presentation, but you’ll have to do it in real time.
Here are ways to meet both sets of challenges…

In This Lecture: Stay on Track to Minimize Distractions
Eventually, every presenter has to deal with distraction caused by misbehaving audience members.
Educational psychologist Rudolf Dreikurs suggested that misbehavior is caused by people who don’t feel they belong. They may resort to disruptive behavior, seeking attention and power so they’ll be included; they may seek revenge to get back at the organization or people they resent; or they may become apathetic, feeling the situation is hopeless.
This section will show you practical solutions that allow you to handle such problems quickly and easily, staying in charge without being heavy-handed.

In This Lecture: Avoid Common Presentation Mistakes
I have spent 10 years of research analyzing the presentations of 452 business professionals. After 4,680 hours of observation and another 4,825 hours of feedback, I’ve discovered 10 mistakes that thread their way into nearly every presenter’s toolbag. In this section, you’ll discover what they are and exactly how to avoid and overcome them.

In This Lecture: Top 5 Best Practices of Public Speaking
This video offers you the principles and tools that can help you do many things, among them create a customized, memorable presentation that your audience will crave; overcome your fears and become a confident presenter; and engage and entertain even the most challenging audience. To get results, you have to act on that advice.
This section encourages you to take a few minutes to think about where you would like to make changes. Write down the top five areas in which this video has shown you ways to improve your presentation skills. Since research and my own experiences indicate that people can focus only three goals at a time, I suggest you choose the three you want to incorporate in your life first. Start working on those, and once you have achieved them, work on the next three. Continue until you have achieved them all.

Reviews on This Business Presentation Skills Course
“I have been to several seminars on public speaking and giving presentations, including Dale Carnegie training. I truly went into this thinking that I couldn't possibly learn anything new, but I found myself scribbling notes like a mad woman during the presentation. I quickly realized that these were tips and techniques that I had never heard before, and that I could use immediately upon my return to the office.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Still sitting on the fence? Here are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.
Question:
What is 'Money-Making Presentations' (AKA...Advantage)?
Answer:
Advantage is 8 modules of 90+ minutes of video lessons plus a downloadable 11-page Your Turn” guide to help maximize your learning experience…. (NOTE: A complete course description can be found in the middle of this page.)
The course level is for all levels, and is a step-by-step video and recipe guide to give an effective business presentation, put power in your pitch and get a leg up on your competition by getting your audience to do what you want.
You’ll learn how to make a successful presentation simple…
Here’s how it works:
In the last 36 months my team and I have invested over 3500 hours (of our own time) observing and coaching over 1000 people to give effective business presentations.
…this recipe has been tested with real audiences.
And along the way we have perfected a large number of strategies and tactics (over 36 to be exact). More importantly, like any good coach, we DOCUMENT each strategy. You’ll not only get to see me (Jason) model “step-by-step” exactly what we suggest you do…
…you’ll also get to see me model the answers to the top 8 questions that those 100 people had about how to give an effective business presentation.
There’s all meat and no fluff. If you want backstory and theory, go read a blog post. Advantage is all about taking action and getting results as quickly and easily as possible.
Question:
Is there a guarantee?
Answer:
Yes…all our trainings have a 30-day, no-questions-asked guarantee.
In other words, if you aren’t happy for any reason, just let us know and we’ll give you your money back. We obviously don’t think it’ll come to that, but if you’re even the least bit worried if this will work for you, then put your mind at ease. You either get the results you want or you get your money back. It’s as simple as that!
Question:
How is this program different from other business presentation programs?
Answer:
Let’s face it: Presentation Experts are a dime a dozen.
So how do you separate those who “walk the talk” from the ones who merely…
…talk?
And at Rule the Room, it was our problem, too. You see, we don’t just teach presentation best practices, we actually DO PRESENTATIONS for businesses that we ACTUALLY OWN, CONSULT, or WORK FOR.
Sure, over the last 10 years, we’ve observed and analyzed over 10,000 speakers (including the top 100 TED talks of all time).
But, we’ve also personally given over 10,000 talks of our own to over 1,000,000 people.
We aren’t researchers. We aren’t journalists.
We’re business owners training employees (and training influencers to train employees) to achieve their full potential at work, convert belief into practice, and make retaining our employees a priority.
In other words: WE ACTUALLY DO THIS STUFF…
…so we know how hard it is to find truly skilled presenters who know what they’re talking about.
We call it “Ruling the Room”, and here it is…
Your Expertise + Our Rule the Room Method = IMPACT.
THAT makes you an INFLUENCER…
And that’s why we created the “Money-Making Presentations” course. We built this course to train our own presenters, but in the spirit of “open sourcing” our business (which is what Rule the Room is all about) we’re now making this certification and training available to the world.
In short, we’re making it available to YOU…
Enjoy!
