This course, Military Diplomacy: The Role of Hard Power in International Relations , provides an in-depth exploration of how military tools and strategies intersect with diplomacy to shape global politics. Military diplomacy is a critical instrument in international relations, leveraging hard power—coercion, threats, or force—to achieve diplomatic objectives while complementing soft power approaches such as persuasion, cultural influence, and economic incentives. Benedict Kioko Mwololo is a seasoned military leader with over 37 years of service in the Kenya Defence Forces. He began his career as a Kenya Air Force cadet in 1986 and rose to the rank of Brigadier. His extensive experience includes roles in aviation, human resources, and peacekeeping, where he served as Deputy Chief of Staff in the UN peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic. He holds a Master's in Public Administration and a Bachelor's in International Relations and Diplomacy, and his most recent role was Director of Academic Affairs at the National Defence University-Kenya.
