This is an introduction to Data Science Job: How to become a Data Scientist course. I'll note that though there are many sources to learn technical skills (Python, machine learning, mathematics), there are almost none to learn how to become a data scientist and what a data scientist do.
With this course you'll become a data scientist. From zero to hero.
A Data Scientist used to be a scientific researcher who combines statistical methods and software development expertise in order to create, analyse, and interpret data. But now you can be a Data Scientist at a company, crunching data, trying to understand practical implications of real-world commercial data.
A Data Scientist is one of the most sought after jobs in the industry right now, and it comes with a lot of perks. You can earn anywhere between $120,000-$180,000 per year.
The most basic job of a Data Scientist is to create data and then use software to analyze the data.
Data Scientists are in high demand, so you’ll need to have a well-rounded skill set if you’re interested in this type of job. For a start, to become an intern or a junior data scientist you will only have to know:
how to implement basic data structures in Python
communicate and visualize your results well.
In general you will need both technical (Python, SQL, problem solving, statistics) and soft skills (communication, visualisation).
As a data scientist you will learn and re-learn your skills constantly. Learning data science can be done through
books (also available for free like Think Bayes, Think Stats, Deep Learning)
courses (Coursera, Udemy, Harvard, MIT)
code (Github, Kaggle)
There are virtually unlimited learning sources on the web - you just have to know what to look for and how.
When you have a portfolio of 3-4 Github projects, a nice LinkedIn profile and reviewed necessary material, you're ready to find a job. There are a couple of options to choose from:
individual projects through Fiverr or Upwork
free internship at a startup
junior position at a company
You can start by freelancing on Fiverr/Upwork or go directly to an internship or a junior position.
