What you'll learn

  • Explain the ONE metadata model, including properties, traits, and namespaces, and navigate the metadata graph.
  • Add a custom property to extend an existing object type with organisation-specific metadata.
  • Apply traits to properties to enable faceted search and filtering in the catalog.
  • Assess the risk of a platform configuration change and apply it safely without breaking existing workflows.
  • Configure custom navigation menus so users can find the object types your organisation cares about.
  • Configure entity detail screens to surface the properties and traits that matter to your users.

Course content

3 sections8 lectures48m total length
  • The Metadata Model: What It Is and Why It Matters5:24

See why the same Contract data feature works completely differently for a bank and a retailer, and understand how the metadata model - not the code - is what makes Ataccama ONE adaptable to each.

  • Properties, Traits and Namespaces6:04

Distinguish properties (data fields) from traits (reusable behaviours applied to properties) and namespaces (organisational containers), and see how these three combine to define an object type.

  • Navigating the Metadata Graph6:22

Use the metadata browser to walk from an object type to its properties, from a property to its traits, and understand how relationships between entity types are themselves modelled as metadata.

Requirements

  • Complete UDY01 (Getting Started with Ataccama ONE).
  • Complete UDY10 (Extend Ataccama ONE with GraphQL API) is recommended but not required.
  • Platform administrator or superuser access to an Ataccama ONE instance is required to follow along.

Description

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

Ataccama ONE ships with a default set of object types and properties. For most organisations, that default does not match how they actually work - a bank models data contracts differently than a retailer, and a healthcare organisation has entirely different compliance fields to track. The platform is designed to be extended, and this course teaches you how.

You will learn the metadata model that underpins Ataccama ONE - properties, traits, and namespaces - and how they combine to define object types. From there you will add a custom property to an existing object type, apply traits to enable faceted search and filtering, and configure the user interface - navigation menus and entity detail screens - so that what you have added is easy to find and use. Along the way you will learn how to assess and apply platform changes safely.

What you will build by the end of this course:

- A working understanding of the ONE metadata model and how to navigate it

- A custom property added to an object type in your instance

- A trait applied to enable faceted search on that property

- A custom navigation menu item

- A configured entity detail screen showing your new property

Prerequisites: UDY01. Platform administrator or superuser access is required. UDY10 is recommended but not required.

This course is for platform administrators, solution architects, and consultants whose organisation's needs go beyond the platform defaults.

Who this course is for:

  • Platform administrators, solution architects, and technical consultants who configure Ataccama ONE for their organisation.
  • Anyone whose default object types and properties don't match how their organisation actually works.
  • Consultants implementing Ataccama ONE for a client organisation and needing to tailor the platform to their business model.
