Customising the Interface of ZBrush 4 R8

In this lesson I will show you how to arrange and setup the slider and icons to your own style and feel.

Being able to change the default start up document in ZBrush means you can get the correct look and feel you want.

ZBrush has a set up pre-loaded colour and layout schemes by default lets look at those, its good to realise as you might want to start with one of these for a base for further customisation of the interface.

ZBrush allows you to extensively change all the interface colours to better suit you, let me show you how.

In order to make this section a bit clearer I have added another lecture on Colours for the Interface.

Having the lightbox automatically start every time ZBrush starts can be annoying let me show you how to turn it off.

In this lecture I will show you how to set up a new top level menu item inside ZBrush this can be great for tools and pallet's you often use!

Organisation is key in ZBrush so with that in mind we will create a sublevel menu item in which we can separate out tools we often use.

Assigning hotkeys for menu items can be a great speed saver let me show you how simple it is!!

Just like actions inside Photoshop ZBrush uses Macros these will record common actions and run them when you initialise thew script we will also set up buttons to these in our new menu.

In this lecture I am going to show you how you can use a macro to create a multimesh insert brush first we will record it then I will repeat it using a macro, I was asked by a student why he never sees people using macros in training courses that is because it automates processes training courses are about showing you how to do everything, believe me we use them in the real world for speeding up tasks it can save hours of time!!

Let me show you how you can add Alphas, textures or anything to the lightbox making it easy for you to get to your assets, I am also going to show you that these do not have to be put into the folder but can be linked to from another drive saving valuable OS disk space.

In this lecture I am going to build a custom brush and save this out so we can reuse whenever ZBrush starts.

Now we have created a new custom brush I want to show you how to give it a custom Image Preview making it easier to identify what the brush does!

In this last lesson I am supplying the handy shortcut list this was taken from the ZBrushe website.

Here is what you have to do:

Click B to bring up the brush palette.
Then click the letter that you want to narrow down to, in this example click C.
With C clicked all you will see is the brushes that start with C. This is when you will see the next letter that selects the brush.
At this point you can hold CTRL+ALT to change the shortcut to whatever you want by just clicking on the brush and then click your new shortcut.
NOTE: Keep in mind that when you do this ZBrush automatically replaces the shortcut of another brush if you select a shortcut that is already assigned.

Zoom Timeline in/out – click on selected key frame dot
Move selected key frame – click+drag dot to new position (dragging off end will delete)
Store new data in existing key frame – Shift+Ctrl+click on the key frame dot
Delete a key frame – click+drag dot off the Timeline
Copy selected key frame – Shift+click on the Timeline at the point where you want the copy
Copy multiple key frames – Shift+click on all the key frames dots to be copied, then Shift+click the Timeline
at the point where you want the copies
Create Transition key frame – Ctrl+click on an existing key frame dot
Create Rigid key frame – Alt+click on an existing key frame dot
Play the Timeline (will play as a loop) – Shift+click on the Timeline cursor
Stop the Timeline playing – click Esc
Record Timeline as a Movie – Shift+Ctrl+click on the Timeline cursor
(set the cursor to the start first using the LEFT ARROW)

Move item to custom interface position – Ctrl+Alt+drag (when Enable Customize is switched on)
Remove item from custom interface position – Ctrl+Alt+drag to Canvas (when Enable Customize is on)
