What you'll learn

  • How to operate many of the native effects available in Cubase.
  • The course can be completed in one sitting or over a period of time.
  • No project risks.
  • Cubase contains multiple native effects that get increase with each new version.

Course content

1 section26 lectures2h 33m total length
  • Introduction2:37

    An introduction to the course.

  • AutoPan6:34

AutoPan provides several parameters to modulate the left/right stereo position of your file.

  • AutoPan Options6:49

Further AutoPan operations are looked at here.

  • Chopper5:54

Chopper allows you to create a tremolo with or without an additional panning effect.

  • Chorus4:33

Chorus doubles the audio that is sent into it with a slightly detuned version.

  • Cloner8:29

Cloner adds up to 4 detuned and delayed voices to the signal for rich modulation and chorus effects.

  • Compressor3:38

Compressor reduces the dynamic range of the audio, making softer sounds louder or louder sounds softer, or both.

  • DaTube4:59

DaTube emulates the characteristic warm, lush sound of a tube amplifier.

  • Distortion5:54

Distortion adds crunch to your tracks.

  • Flanger3:30

This is a classic flanger effect with added stereo enhancement.

  • Imager4:33

Imager allows you to expand or reduce the stereo width of your audio in up to 4 bands. This way, you can independently adjust the stereo image in defined frequency domains.

  • Magneto6:29

Magneto II simulates the saturation and compression of recording on analog tape machines.

  • Metalizer6:39

Metalizer feeds the audio signal through a variable frequency filter, with tempo sync or time modulation and feedback control.

  • ModMachine5:11

ModMachine combines delay modulation and filter modulation. Frequency and resonance of the filter are modulated by an LFO or can be set manually. An additional Drive parameter allows for distortion effects.

  • Mono To Stereo7:26

MonoToStereo turns a mono signal into a pseudo-stereo signal. The plug-in can be used on a mono file or a stereo file with equal channels.

  • Multiband Compression4:58

Multiband Compressor allows a signal to be split into four frequency bands. You can specify the level, bandwidth, and compressor characteristics for each band.

  • Octaver4:31

This plug-in can generate two additional voices that track the pitch of the input signal one octave and two octaves below the original pitch. Octaver is best used with monophonic signals.

  • Pitch Correct8:43

Pitch Correct automatically detects, adjusts, and fixes slight pitch and intonation inconsistencies in monophonic vocal and instrumental performances in realtime.

  • Reverberation6:49

REVelation produces a high-quality algorithmic reverb with early reflections and reverb tail. REVerence is a convolution tool that allows you to apply room characteristics (reverb) to the audio.

  • Rotary4:20

This modulation effect simulates the classic effect of a rotating speaker.

  • Stereo Delay7:20

StereoDelay has two independent delay lines which either use tempo-based or freely specified delay time settings.

  • Stereo Enhancer4:15

StereoEnhancer expands the stereo width of (stereo) audio material.

  • Studio EQ5:09

Studio EQ is a high-quality 4-band parametric stereo equalizer. All four bands can act as fully parametric peak filters. In addition, the low and high bands can act as either shelving filters (three types) or as cut filters (low-pass/high-pass).

  • Tranceformer4:22

Tranceformer is a ring modulator effect that modulates incoming audio by an internal, variable frequency oscillator, producing new harmonics.

  • Frequency 28:51

Frequency 2 is a great EQ effect.

  • Reverb Ducking10:28

Attenuating the reverb signal when a signal is heard is a great way of cleaning up a mix.

Requirements

  • An understanding of Cubase.

Description

This 'Cubase Native Effects Volume 1' course on using some of the native plugins is designed as a resource that can be dipped into by all users, though is likely to be of most use to new users.

Though a single project is focussed on throughout the course, it is not designed as a ‘Create A Song’ project.

Instead, this course has been created as a resource for new users to quickly get up to speed with how some Cubase native effects (that I use the most) work, and how they adapt the sound of the audio fed into them.

Consequently, the order of the movies in this course is alphabetical. This is simply for your ease.

The course does not necessarily move through a project in a linear fashion building upon what was seen in the movies that preceded the one you might be viewing at that point. They are simply listed in alphabetical order for index like convenience for you.

So, with all that in mind, if you’re looking for a visual manual type of resource, I’m sure you’ll find this course useful to you.

Steinberg's Cubase is available in a number of different versions. This course has been designed so that common effects between the versions are investigated and used.

Who this course is for:

  • New users to Cubase - and more experienced users that haven't explored the native effects in any detail.
