Description
Dear learners and story-lovers!
If you enjoy reading short stories and learning languages, you have come to the right place!
This course is designed for learners who would like to improve their Czech through entertaining real-life stories that happened in Prague. These funny, heartwarming stories took place during awkward situations or even embarrassing encounters in public places (transportation, streets, or stores).
This is the second part of my course When Czech Stories Are Never Better 1, which received great feedback from my learners. As well as in the first part, I present the short stories in the colloquial Czech as they originally happened. I selected fifteen stories from a book titled Odposlechnuto v Praze (Overheard in Prague) and explained everything you need to know about the language and the culture to understand and enjoy the story. Together, we will read anecdotes from humorous situations involving family members, tickets inspectors and even spiders! You will learn funny responses and wordplays which were heard at a store or a pub.
The structure of each episode is as follows: I will start with a brief introduction telling you what the story is all about, I will read it out loud with the voice that will impersonalize the characters of the story and display the captions. I will translate each part of the story and explain the metaphoric meaning vs the literal translation. Once you understand the story, we will learn the vocabulary and grammar. This will help you understand the Czech humor and what it means in our culture. I will be sure to show properly how the same humor can be used differently in new situations. And, of course, be prepared to test your knowledge and squeeze a few minutes to practice after we are done with the story.
This course is for anyone who is interested in a humorous story-based language course, no Czech background is necessary. It is designed as a stand-alone product. For those who want to dig deeper, I would highly recommend my other course titled A Fantastic Journey Into the Czech Language & Culture.
Looking forward to the opportunity of working together through this course!

Instructor
I have 16 years of teaching experience (Czech, English and Spanish language). Czech is my mother tongue and I love everything about it and do my best to show the beauty of it to my students. I am an extremely patient and attentive teacher and I always come to my lessons in a good mood because I truly enjoy what I do. Learning languages myself is what keeps me aware of struggles students might encounter when they learn Czech. I never forget how challenging it is to start learning a new language!
I have a BA degree in Language Teaching (English and Spanish) and a bisemestrial course from Charles University in Prague at teaching Czech for foreigners. I have worked at a language school and taught both individuals and groups and various age categories. Later I started teaching as a freelancer and moved most of my teaching to an online environment. I have been teaching mostly on Skype for 7 years now and enjoy teaching students from all over the world.
Here are some testimonies of a few students of mine:
“Zuzka is an excellent teacher. Czech is a complicated language, but she teaches it step by step and always considers the interest of the student. The structure of her lessons allows the student to repeat what has been learned and then focus on something new.”
– Kristina from Germany
“Zuzka is vibrant, fun, and knowledgeable. My daughter is an English speaker of Czech descent taking Czech lessons with Zuzka - she truly enjoys them. Highly recommend!”
– Ivana from the United States
“Zuzka is a professional, highly educated, and amazingly talented Czech teacher. She is very patient and always gives you positive feedback. She never fails to bring her smile to each lesson. After just a few months of learning with her, I am amazed at how much I can understand the Czech speakers around me. “
