The purpose of performing the Project Resource Management processes is to ensure
that both human and physical resources are available when needed and where needed during
the project.
During the Plan Resource Management process, project staffing is addressed, including the roles, reporting structure, relationships, and quantity of project participants (which can change as the project evolves).
During the Estimate Activity Resources process, all of the resources required for the project are determined. The amount and type of personnel, material, and equipment should be carefully examined so the results of this process are as accurate as possible.
Project staffing and physical resource needs are satisfied during the Acquire Resources process. The actual resources that will be working on the project are assigned to the project.
Factors to consider include cost, ability, experience, availability, and interest of resources.
The Develop Team process (team-building) continues throughout the project although the majority of the process occurs during execution.
During the Manage Team process, team performance is analyzed and feedback provided. The process also involves coordination of project-related issues and optimization of project performance.
During the Control Resources process, the team ensures that the physical resources, which have been assigned and allocated to the project, are available as planned.
Project Stakeholder Management entails identifying stakeholders and planning, managing, and monitoring their engagement.
Stakeholders are the people, groups, or entities that may impact, be impacted by, or perceive to be impacted by, the work of the project.
Project Stakeholder Management entails identifying stakeholders and planning, managing, and monitoring their engagement. Stakeholders are the people, groups, or entities that may impact, be impacted by, or perceive to be impacted by, the work of the project.
The purpose of the Plan Stakeholder Engagement process is to create a stakeholder engagement plan that details the strategies that will be used to engage stakeholders with the project in alignment with their desires, stake, and potential influence on the success of the project.
The Manage Stakeholder Engagement process focuses on communicating with stakeholders, meeting their expectations, addressing their problems in a timely manner, and encouraging their commitment to the project.
The Monitor Stakeholder Engagement process focuses on stakeholder relationships and modifies stakeholder engagement strategies and plans as appropriate. The benefit of effectively performing this process is that stakeholder engagement will be maintained or increased throughout the project.
The purpose of Project Communications Management is to ensure an efficient and effective flow of information throughout the project.
This is accomplished by devising and executing a communication strategy that targets and engages each stakeholder and team member in accordance with project needs and the available organizational assets.
During Plan Communication Management, the project manager determines the communication needs of all the stakeholders. Key criteria is the information required by each stakeholder, when it is required, and the format in which it is required.
The primary focus of the Manage Communications process is to gather information relevant to the creation, distribution, storage, and retrieval, as well as the conclusive disposition, of communications in accordance with the communications management plan.
Monitoring communications involves monitoring and controlling project communications to make certain that stakeholder communication requirements are achieved.
Communications are a complex part of any project. The greater the number of people involved in a project, the greater the number of communications that will be sent and received.

While the other nine knowledge areas may be managed, in whole or in part, by specialists, Project Integration Management is the sole purview of the project manager.
Accountability for this knowledge area cannot be transferred or delegated.
Develop Project Charter is the process which creates the document which formally authorizes the project or project phases and authorizes the project manager to use organizational resources for project activities.
The Develop Project Management Plan process defines, prepares, and coordinates all plan components and consolidates them into an integrated project management plan.
The Direct and Manage Project work process consists of leading and performing project work in accordance with the project management plan, as well as implementing authorized changes.
The Manage Project Knowledge process entails creating new knowledge from existing knowledge in order to achieve project objectives and add to organizational learning.
The Monitor and Control Project Work process involves tracking, reviewing, and reporting project progress (through initiating, planning, executing, and closing) in order to achieve project objectives as described in the project management plan.
The Perform Integrated Change Control process entails the review of all change requests; the approval, rejection, modification, or suspension of each request; the management of approved changes; and the communication of the decisions.
The Close Project or Phase process involves the completion of activities across all process groups for the project, phase, or contract.
Project Scope Management requires that the scope management processes are executed in a timely and effective manner so they result in complete requirements documentation, the project scope statement, the scope management plan, and the work breakdown structure (WBS).
During Plan Scope Management, the scope management plan and the requirements management plan are created.
During Collect Requirements, project requirements are created based on an analysis of project stakeholder needs. The focus should be on appropriately defining the measurable needs of the sponsor, customer, and applicable stakeholders.
During Define Scope, a written project scope statement is created. The scope statement is used for decision-making throughout the project.
During Create WBS, the major deliverables are divided into smaller components that can be easily estimated (schedule and cost), managed, and controlled.
The main goal of Validate Scope is to secure sign-off (formal acceptance) of the project scope at logical intervals during the process and/or when the entire work of the project is completed.
Control Scope addresses, through the Perform Integrated Change Control process, scope change requests and recommended remedial/corrective actions. The process also addresses the management of approved changes.
